It would seem that the Hertz Car Rental Company has had its fill of EVs, if this article from the Daily Telegraph today is correct...

US rental giant Hertz is selling off thousands of Teslas as weak demand forces it to replace 20,000 electric cars with petrol-powered vehicles.
Hertz said it would sell the vehicles over the next year and expected to take a $245m (£193m) hit as it reversed plans to massively expand its electric car fleet.
The company is selling off a range of makes and models but is expected to offload thousands of Teslas. More than 600 are already listed for sale on its used car website.

Three years ago, Hertz announced plans to buy 100,000 Tesla electric cars, a move that pushed Tesla’s market value beyond $1 trillion.
However, Hertz said renting out electric cars had proved to be less profitable than traditional vehicles and the cars had also come with higher repair costs.

The comment about repair costs is particularly interesting.....

Given the person who started it, administers it and funds it (with thanks to those who donate towards the running costs of the site), owns an EV, I do not agree with this statement.

Like most conversations on TM, there are a multitude of opinions along the entire spectrum of the particular topic; EVs, various governments around the globe and their approach to legislature to protect the environment and how much of a positive impact EVs actually have in a rapidly evolving technology segment are no different.

TM is "the place" for anyone who has a love of Morgan vehicles and as it has grown, so have the areas of discussion outside of that niche. As for what those other areas of interest are, well, that is down to each individual but I have seen a wide multitude of subjects raised and discussed, with mutual respect on both sides. The site, nor the community has put a ring fence around what can, or cannot, be discussed.

I watched the vid and suspect that the issue may be more related to voltage reduction in the local area as the result of infrastructure stresses related to the cold weather, as opposed to issues with the vehicles..?
I charged my Tesla at home without issue during the cold snap. on plugging it in initially is performed a battery pre-heat, prior to charging and charged up as normal to full capacity.

One Tesla cold weather function I really like is that without leaving the house I can beam it up on my phone and defrost the car, I can even select individual seat and or steering wheel heating, all of which seems to be advantageous as opposed to being out in the cold scraping ice from screens and getting in to a freezing cold car to drive off...The other day when I beamed up the car to defrost it, the interior temperature was displayed at -6deg C, once the interior was up to my pre-set temp level, the car informed me via the app on my phone....

It seems my Luddite tendencies may be slipping somewhat... (-:

The US rental market is about balancing low cost car buys and selling at a certain second hand value. Per CNBC its likely more to do with Tesla price cuts changing the value proposition! I doubt many day renters worry about driving an EV (provided they are delivered charged!)...
