Talk Morgan Forums Thread Like Summary - Budster in the Pit Lane

Returned from Goodwood MM, in early April
Diagnosed with cancer of the Oesophagus, shortly after getting home.
Now in the middle of both chemotherapy and radiotherapy,
Hopefully treatment will end early August.
Hoping to get to Hive Beach in September.
Grim stuff, but hoping to beat it.
Will keep TM updated.

Update:
Out of hospital today after 2+ weeks
Loads of medication and dietary advice.
Fortunately no longer needing an NG tube.(Very unpleasant)
)Will be awhile until I can eat solid food)
Weak as a kitten, but good to be in my own bed tonight,

Update.

Out of hospital after 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 25 of radiotherapy!
The latter was brutal. I won’t know if the treatments have been successful, until further PETT scans later in the year.
Lost a lot of weight, but slowly trying to return to normal.

Drove my Mini today, just a short distance.
Using this opportunity to have the 4/4 at Berrybrook to do a couple of outstanding jobs that I couldn’t do easily at home.

Berrybrook being epic in the way they have helped.

Good support from local Community Nurses, but really glad to be out of hospital.
Not sure if I’ll make it to Hive Beach, it will be a late decision.

Update: end of July.

Still in hospital:
Slow weight gain - through NG tube feeding.
Probably here for another 7/10 days.
Berrybrook already organised my upcoming MoT and annual service on Stanley.
RD&E - Exeter continues to excel.

Support from Morgan community much appreciated.

Robbie, for context, here is the original thread which brought about the 'Budster' emoticon.

As I created it for Simon, off the back of the topic he started, and he seemed chuffed with it, I'd like to believe it is a tiny tribute to a member of this forum.

Update:

Stanley is due to be returned by Berrybrook next Tuesday.


I’m enjoying being at home, deciding my own food intake, rather than in hospital, being fed via an NG tube.
My progress, though slow, is on target and speaking to the doctor last Thursday, he seems pleased.
I will have to wait until the third week in November to find out if the treatments have worked. (Scans etc). So fingers crossed 🤞.
I was 70kg when I went into hospital (5kg over my ideal weight). I left hospital at 48.7kg and am now at 55kg. My target is to get to 65kg by the end of March.

My next ‘target’ is finding out how challenging it is to use my 4/4 again.

Another huge thank you to Berrybrook, who have been epic throughout in looking after Stanley.

I’ll keep you updated.

I've always maintained that the people are the community and, ultimately, what makes Talk Morgan what it is. I'm a firm believer that individuals may join out of an interest in Morgan sports cars but they stay because of the community, shared experience and warmth of the members.

Your journey is one that many of us can relate to, either directly or indirectly and I, for one, appreciate the updates; reading the comments of others, it is obvious I am far from alone in this sentiment. Furthermore, whether people add to this thread or not, I have no doubt they wish you well. I've often found that people don't know what to say when it relates to health concerns but, as I am sure you already know, this doesn't mean they are ambivalent or don't care. Far too often, the Britishness kicks in and we struggle knowing what to say with things emotive!

If you'd rather not continue the thread, that is one thing - and I can respect that. However, if you'd like to, then I (and obviously others), would be happy to lend a virtual ear, our best wishes and a big old man-hug (or should that be the British 'arm squeeze'! - just enough contact but not too much! )

This thread is no less valuable to the site than any other and I'd go as far to as suggest that it exemplifies what makes Talk Morgan what it is more than many others. The community is a tapestry of threads and the strongest, boldest and most powerful are the ones relating to the people who make up that community, of which this is a perfect example.
