Hi all

I'm looking to buy my first Morgan .... a pre-loved Plus Four. I'm test driving a manual and an automatic tomorrow at Berrybrook and on Thursday/Friday I'm going on a mini motorcycle tour of southern dealers on my way to Newhaven to catch the ferry for a road trip to Monte Carlo (something to be repeated in the Morgan one day I reckon).

Things may change after tomorrow once I've decided if I want a manual or an auto, but at the moment I plan to visit:

Tim Ayres & New Elms Morgan - 2022 auto in stock
Morgan Hertfordshire - 2020 manual, 2023 auto
Allon White Sports Cars - 2022 manual, 2023 auto
Hotel in Bury St Edmunds
Krazy Horse - 2020 auto, 2022 auto, 2022 manual (tuned)
Melvyn Rutter - 2021 auto, 2022 auto, 2022 manual, 2022 manual (Le Mans special edition), 2023 manual,
Brands Hatch Morgan - no Plus Fours in stock but it's en-route ;-)

I'll post updates here :-)

So I drove two cars at BB this morning … a ‘21 manual in sport green and a ‘20 auto in Porsche heron grey. I expected to much prefer the manual … it is my usual choice in anything other than a modern supercar … but I was surprised at how fun and engaging the auto was to drive with the paddles. In fact, aside from the more comfortable seats and the feel of the gearstick in the ‘21 manual, I preferred everything about the ‘20 auto … apart from the look of the selector (yuk!!!).

BB also have a ‘21 auto in blue at a very good price compared to the other two, but I didn’t have time to go out in it. It has the more comfortable looking seats, so I wonder how it will compare overall with the two I did drive. Will probably have to go back and see.

I enquired a while back regarding the auto selector… I also like the metal indicator/wiper stalks too…

The only downside, there’s no indication in the gear knob itself, you have to rely on the dash display only… and that can be a bit tricky in sunlight!

It does look a think of beauty though… and as we’re out of the eu the vat can be claimed back, you just need to hope his majesty’s customs & excise don’t sting you for the extra 1% when returning!

Here’s the reply from morganpark…

Hi Lee,

Thank you for your enquiry and your interest in our Morgan Park products.

Sorry for the delay in response. We are still short of stuff at the moment and with the two closed business days last week I’m still behind a lot of enquiries and orders. Apologize.

However, the price for the CX stalk unit is 980.00 Euro fitted. Price for the wooden automatic gear selector is 1800.00 Euro fitted. Prices include 19% VAT. We should be able to do the conversion the same day when everything is prepared for installation. We have to invoice you VAT when you are present for installation.

A skilled workshop could be able to do the installation. However, you have to send your original stalk unit and automatic gear selector unit to us for conversion. Price for both units without installation is 1840.00 Euro net plus shipping.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind regards

So I visited Morgan Hertfordshire, Allon White and Krazy Horse on Thurs/Fri last. All very different dealers …. Morgan Hertfordshire is I believe the newest Morgan dealer and focus on high-end modern retro sixes of the kind that appeal to similar customers to those who buy supercars from their other garage next door. Allon white of course is completely the other end of the spectrum - the oldest dealer with a huge selection of older cars. Krazy Horse has a mix of stuff, but all a bit customised with a bit of a hipster vibe.

I drove a six first at Krazy Horse and decided immediately it was t was I was looking for. Too refined and grown up. Then I drove the WRp4 four and was smitten. A very cheeky fun car. The only area where perhaps it is lacking a little is in the braking to match the power … but there must be something that can be done about that if it becomes an issue.

Anyway, the deal was done and I’m now waiting on a date when the car will be ready :-)
