Hi Talk Morgan!

I'm a first time Mog owner, though long time admirer. I've owned quite a few cars in my time, but a Morgan has always eluded me; that is, until now!

Please allow me to introduce my one owner from new (until me) 1975 4/4!

She's not perfect and needs a bit of love, but I am completely over the moon with her.

She came quite interestingly specced from the factory with steel wheels and a factory tow bar (I have the original order sheet), and I'm not completely onboard with those particular choices so in short order she'll be having the tow bar removed and some wire wheels fitted.

I took her home on the day I went to see her, knowing she hadn't really been driven since 2013 (200 or miles or so in those 12 years!). She was running rough, but I only had a 30 minute drive home so thought I'd chance it rather than borrowing a trailer and scheduling another day. Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, she spat some of her coolant out on the way home. I had her recovered to my workshop where I spent the following weekend doing the head gasket, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing gasket, radiator & cooling system flush, replacement vacuum advance line, new plugs, oil, filter, valve clearances, and ignition timing. She is now running incredibly well. I have also since changed the diff oil, but the input shaft seal is leaking so I need to address that soon. When I first did the valve clearances they were basically completely shut which explained a lot of the bad running.

This weekend I took her to Kimbolton show this weekend (albeit not for display) and suffered a blowout on the way there. The tyres are pretty old but didn't look in terrible shape so I thought they'd be alright for a while but I was clearly mistaken. Luckily it was a rear and I kept the car under control. I had a jack and the spare but no wrench. Happily a passing TVR and MG B GT stopped and I was able to borrow a wrench from the very kind MG owner and swap the wheel. Now, I would just put new tyres on the car, however I want to swap out the steel wheels for wire ones which just, in my opinion, look more at home on a Morgan! I ordered a set of hubs from MWS which have arrived, and I got a set of wheels from a breaker with damage on two of the rims. Those are going off to be rebuilt this week with any luck, so I'll be putting new tyres on those wheels. It means I probably shouldn't drive the Mog between now and then unfortunately, but such is life!

Theres a few other bits to do, mainly other rubber parts perishing, but overall the structure of the car and the foundations appear to be solid, and I am very much looking forward to years of happy mogging!

I have an Instagram where I'm posting what I'm doing with the car so if anybody is interested please feel free to follow @mogonthemove, and I hope to see some of you at various events around the UK and Europe!

My recent purchase sported 9-year old tires. Although they had plenty of tread left, they were hard as rocks and the car slid all over the road around turns. With new tires, the handling is amazing.

Love my wire wheels, which fortunately the previous owner had chosen.

It's only been two months for me, but the joy of driving a Morgan is even better than expected.

Welcome, and congratulations. I have a 73 4/4 and I absolutely love it. So much fun to drive. I had the engine rebuilt 2 years ago with a 224 Kent cam, oversized valves, double valve springs, and a touch of porting work. That raised the HP from a stock 95 to about 115. I also put a T-9 5 speed in it. The car is nimble and quick.

Enjoy!
