Talk Morgan Forums Thread Like Summary - Ozarks and Beyond

Thanks to member @CraigL, I registered for the Brits in the Ozarks event--and drove the Super3 from Austin. I decided to take backroads until I got impatient and finally got on the Interstate- pit stopped East of the Dallas metroplex with a good sunburn and was fairly dehydrated- note to self- wear UV resistant upper garment, gobs of sunscreen and stay hydrated. A night's rest made a big difference, as did adjusting the pedal box, which I did not check before setting out- it was far to close for comfort- once that got readjusted I hooked up with Craig and a friend who was transporting a TR4. We took a Native American highway across Oklahoma, and when we dropped down into Arkansas, the heavens opened- torrential rain- the kind that might make you pull off the road and wait it out, but nope, we soldiered on- got to the venue soaked and tired. Showered a change of clothes and a few drams helped restore spirits. The weather was fine in the days leading up to the show. I flew my mechanic up from Austin in the expectation that we would share driving back. But, on the day of the show, the weather-gods were not with us- more torrential rain and some pretty intense lightening strikes- a bunch of us took refuge in a convenience store- I put the Super 3 under the gas pump roof. Called the hotel and checked back in, drenched again! At that point, I was going for the "Murphy's Law" award, but hung out for the awards dinner, got my mechanic on a flight out and had a local out of Branson trailer me home. We did it in one day- long ride.
I wish I had more better photos to share, I'll try to post a few.
Did attend the Brit show in Marble Falls this weekend- easy drive from Austin and the morning weather was great! My friend's V-Twin broke down just as we entered the show venue and he got a tow from an Aston Martin-- probably the classiest tow rig I've ever seen. The Morgans were flying the flag, courtesy of Craig- and there was a stunning Plus4 in all black that made me think- hmm, a roof, a real windshield? Not a bad idea. We made good time back to Austin from Marble Falls but hit some heavy traffic due to the ACL music festival. Nonetheless, home safe and sound.
Maybe Craig has some good photos? One of the guys there was 91 and still driving- had a prewar MG race car. It was his driver who trailered me home-- the Moose, not to be confused with any number of other Moose who inhabit these parts.

Bill: It was good seeing you at the Ozark event, it was definitely a wet show day being in a M3W as this picture shows . Craig took the photo of me when we got back to the hotel.


Also a long wet drive back to Colorado, had to strip the M3W down to get all the water out and give a good clean.

Yes, Simon, I'd really love to have a Supersport with a stick. This may mean a trip to Malvern. I don't know all the politics of Morgan, in the US, there is no "distributor" there are a handful of dealers. I'd love to see these cars get homulogated rather than brought in as motorcycles or replica-cars. Maybe Morgan doesn't see the financial sense in this-- the US is a huge car market and Texas in particular is a big money market for high line cars. Lots to learn on my end. The Super 3 performed like a champ. When we got it back into Austin at 9.45pm from the Ozark run, the folks at Petrol Lounge spent time going over it- desiccants, clean up detail, checked all fasteners, fluids, etc. I was pretty impressed that this little "go cart" withstood a beastly voyage of some considerable miles.
I do have the side panniers, the Moto II (which is hard wired to charge from the electrical system) and thanks to Chris Naylor, a fastidious tech at Petrol Lounge, a nice fitting mohair tonneau.
But it is still a bugs in the teeth experience, which I can deal with; the Texas heat is a whole other story. Ever see Paris Texas?

Great report Bill , really good to hear your Super 3 behaved impeccably too.

It must have been an intense experience alright, I honestly thought in torrential stuff you'd be forced to stop with it being single driven wheel.
You deserve a bravery award for sure.

I am very careful with my Plus 8 in the wet having had a few "moments" learning.

that truck was crazy- 1100 hp diesel which he could control through a computer widget on the dash. We hauled ass. The firearm- well I don't want to get into that in detail- let's just say it's pretty common where I live in Texas.

Brave or stupid. I dunno. Just felt like we had to get through it.

The best trips always have their moments!
