Lovely day here today so down in the woods with the quad and trailer chainsawing up some trees that Storm Bram kindly felled for me (but not so kindly deposited across my access tracks.) For years I used an old grey Fergie for this job ... wonderful thing though it was, down in the wet patches it dug through the grass and rutted the ground. Then I got a quad .... not got the out and out pulling power of the tractor but it pulls over 1/4 ton in the trailer and that's enough limbing and logging in one go for me to be needing a cup of tea ... and as both it and the trailer have big flotation tyres it floats over the soggy bits and keeps mud to a minimum. Hung onto the Fergie for a year or two but just wasn't using it for the work I needed to do so parted with it. Don't know if anyone else uses one, but, to me, they're one of the good things to spring from the modern world and I wouldn't be without one now. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/12/20/20251220_112101.jpg) K

Saved about a metre high bit of the trunk as my new chopping-block .... proper solid thing. The struggle to drag it out 50m over the rough will offset the amount of rum I intend to drink at my neighbour's Hogmannay party tonight!! 🙂 ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/12/31/20251231_111542.jpg) K

Sharp change to the weather yesterday, snowmen, skiing and sledging in the Alpine like conditions at the woods, best fun we’ve had together for a good while. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/01/03/IMG_4556.jpeg)

Happy new year all, this one started in the saddest possible way for me but how about this for a beautiful ending, we chopped trees at the woods again yesterday. PS. Cordless chainsaws are great but only as good as the batteries, cheap stuff is a waste of time, the one in the previous picture is a Makita XGT 40 volt, has the same power as a 50cc 2stroke and the best connection between battery and tool.some of their tools are manufactured in their Telford factory as an added bonus. Don’t buy from Amazon, Jeff doesn’t care about you and he doesn’t appreciate the money, go to a real shop with people in in it.

Today I have been mostly filling potholes in the track to the house ..... these two aren't new or pretty, but I don't know what I'd do without them. About a mile of track and some wheel-swallowing holes .... endless job that would make Sisyphus wish he was back with his rock! ..... 5 ton of hardcore shifted so far and counting ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/03/19/20260319_142200.jpg) Doesn't help with the shoveling and wacker-plating at the other end, but at least the loading is a breeze.🙂 K
