A cheeky copy of the other thread title. Despite owning a vehicle of that type, my first thought, as Alistair said, "Every time I see this title in the list I keep thinking it is about QUAD the hifi company"!

Reminds me of the old days in the BBC studios in Bristol, where most of the speakers were LS3/5s, 3/8s, (and some 5/9s), powered by 303s or 405s. I don't think we had Quad preamps, as we were normally feeding the power amp from a mixing desk.

Anyway, it's nice to see the brand still going strong, and reinventing the classics as well as producing some great new gear.

Yes that is sadly where my tiny single brain cell lives !

Sadly they are now part of IAG, Shenzen, not terribly Cambridge. Not an ending but perhaps a change of direction......I would get a pair of serviced 606's in if you want to stay originial.
Some of the Chinese HiFi stuff is really good value and quality but does show limitations when compared.

I remember when my dad had a 33/303 set running a pair of Cambridge Audio C40's? I think. A Thorens TD160/SME/V15 was the source.
For a while there was a Ferrograph reel to reel player involved as well but there was little content for it and it got sold. I have great memories of watching those reels turning.

I have a pair of ESL-63 downstairs attached to the computer as the output for Webinaring and doing Teams/Whatscrap/Skype/Facetime/all of 'em
Their transparency gives the voices a real clarity!

If you want a good comparrison of old brands vs new there is a high end coffee machine called Wendougee DATA S which sounds funny but is remarkable!
They have done an genuinely amazing job of building a computer and plumbing to replicate and "improve" on making real espresso.

I ended up buying an authentic Izzo Pompei Dual Lever due to my dinosaur gene.

How the world is changing.

Mrs Image had a 33/303 set running Tannoy speakers like small phone-boxes driven by a Transcriptor Reference deck back in the '70s ... that turntable was a sexy bit of kit!

Sounded great but was crap for hauling logs out of the forest! 🙂
