thinking about going to a cx plus 4 they have one at williams a 22 car in dark green . any one got any info or views on it

Something you've missed out on then Howard.
I don't use mine a lot, but I like having it it in the the garage, fiddling with bits now and then, and going out for lunch or a potter around the north yorks moors.
Don't think I've ever been out without someone saying 'lovely car' or giving me a thumbs up.

Though, if you buy an old trad then they're not out of date ....they are what they are .... and as I wanted an 'old car' it suits me just fine 🙂

Odd my 22 hood is the best I've had.
side screens go in a bag on the rack.
I can get well over 200 miles on a tank. It is better in mpg than my Roadsters. High 20s vs mid forties on a long run. Either way after 3 or 4 hrs a break is welcome.

My brakes work well the travel is short. KH developed a car rocking system to bleed all the air.

The heater isn't the best. I noticed the supersports has a clear upgrade & yes one side freezes in draught whilst the other is warm. Heated seats thoug help.


Each to their own. It is different & not a trad. My knees though are far happier.

I'm with you Keith, every criticism of the trad Morgan is just why I love them, if I wanted comfort and non involving driving I would have possibly bought an MX5.

I have a MY22 PLus Four,automatic and without question it's the best Morgan I've ever had. I enjoyed my trads, but the CX is on a completely different level, so easy and enjoyable to drive...................

Perhaps we should describe it as being part of a "sub(missive)" culture. Enjoying pain. Oh, did I say that out loud whoops. (that was a joke before you lot pin me to the cross!). Wine may be involved. We really need a thread on wine. Too much wine?

If there was ever a safe place that has not gone AI inclusive, unfluencer driven and profit motived I just have to say thank you to Simon and all the humans on this board for being real. May god save the following generations who have not experienced the joy of working for a smile. A big smile.

Like all motoring brands, you can see the evolution over time with Morgans the increasing sophistication of the engines, electronics , suspension and relative ease of operation compared to earlier models, whilst clothed in a skin fixed firmly in the 30's, which in my view amplifies the evolution of the other changes. From a very simple car that has evolved into a technically more challenging car in it's latest iterations.

My other favourite brand is Mercedes,I would love to have a Pagoda with its relativity simple trim and drive dynamics, but I also enjoy my much newer Mercs which are far more capable of travelling vast distances in comfort with ease enjoying eg a sophisticated sound system, satellite navigation and all the mod cons like heated seats, air conditioning to cosset you from the stress, but can also remove/dull some of the driving experience, we all crave for.

Then individual preferences come into play, and your most positive driving experiences in certain cars, which will influence and colour your views and for me when it comes to Mercedes, the 90's 124 Mercedes E Cabriolets will always be the Mercedes I hanker for.

So for me this discussion isn't so much about the merits of CX verses trads, but more a recognition that the needs of many of the drivers are changing and evolving often based on eg increasing age and infirmity for some, that starts to influence the choices we make, which in no way undermines the choices of others. I can't deal a clutch anymore, especially on the heavily congested roads I encounter everyday, it might be different if I was living in a more isolated less dense traffic environment.

So fortunately Morgan offers an automatic, which doesn't dilute too much the raw driving experience of a Morgan we all enjoy, for me it enhances the Morgan driving experience, as I gain more leg room and don't have to deal with the clutch..but an automatic won't be to the liking of everyone..........

I should also point out the Morgan is my everyday car, it's not tucked away for sunny days, or in hibernation over winter and so far it's proven itself as a very user friendly daily hack, which I can't say the same of my last 3 trads the 70th, Plus 4 and Roadster. My 70's and 80's 4/4s were my daily hacks and I had some really enjoyable times and the CX has facilitated those type of times again.

Hopefully subject to the degree of protest motorway blocking expected this week. I'm travelling south to have a look at the Harley.on Saturday.

It's good news that the CX was introduced (allegedly) to bring more younger owners into Morgan ownership, I'm not convinced they stay. However, it has given an option for long term Trad owners to move into CX cars, some going for the auto option to extend their potential Mog ownership which is a great spinoff, benefiting from the modern depreciation too

Having changed the Honda and got an MG4 XPower, we can now waft along in comfort and get to 60mph in under 4 seconds. I’d rather be in a slower, leaky Morgan though! 😀

On occasion on slippy wet roads, the traction control would have come in handy.......the reason why I went to the one of the later MY22 was the wood dash and wood steering wheel option, so evocative of a bygone era. Whilst the gear lever is a little modern, it seems to get lost in all the polished wood.

As stated in my former posts, it's not black or white. I own a 4/4 trad since more than 30 years and keep enjoying it, I take care of it as a family car till one of my sons will look after it. Beginning of 2023 I bought new a late model year PlusFour 2022, because apart from the comfort and compliance with emission rules, I wanted the wooden dash, in my case the manual shifting and I wanted a MotoLita SW as replacement. That's for me a real Morgan feeling, so I did not mind not to have no ESP or airbags. I think however if someone is in the market for a PlusSix, I would always go for one with ESP. Last weekend I had a very nice tour in the Northern part of The Netherlands, in my trad 4/4, and I loved it. it is now garaged in the North as my PlusFour is at home in the garage in the South of Holland. I was glad on Sunday evening after dinner at 21 h that I could drive in my Tintop back home, a 230 km leg. 30 years ago I should do that in my 4/4. Although in good health and condition at 69 years I do feel the 30 years of age in difference. In he CX the way back should be more easy to make. They are all Morgans. We have to cherish the marque. The aging Morgan population is well served with the CX(V) generation. Nothing against MX5's or Porsches or whatever, but I should always try to drive Morgans as long as it is possible. So let us be positive!!

The CX has an involving ride all right, just doesn't crash as much as a trad on uneven surfaces. I actually preferred the old lever arm rear suspension of the earlier 4/4 like my '85 4/4, with much higher ride and greater ground clearance, a little more bouncy on undulating roads, much lighter car than the later trads and that was a great driving and more involving compared to my later heavier more powerful trads.I'm sure owners of the much earlier cars will say exactly the same thing about my '85 4/4 had gone soft and not as involving as their cars.

I'm just grateful I can keep enjoying a Morgan, and as much as I enjoyed my first Morgan. back in the 80's.....I doubt I could get in it (easily) these days, and would only savour it for much shorter journey's than I currently undertake. Out shopping today spent half an hour chatting with the Halford staff as they spotted it in the car park..........people just love to see them and I feel lucky to own one.

The Plus Four is my third Morgan.
No. 1 a 1993 4/4 Ford 1.6 cvh efi. Very nice car. Fuel pump failed so while replacing it I checked the fuel system. Drained the tank ( a drain plug was there), flushed and 1gal put in to check what the gauge showed. New pump, filter to protect it and new flexi pipes. 55l tank.
No.2...2002 Plus8 Gems system, 55l tank. Did a good mileage in it. Made a list of jobs for long term keeping but a test of a Plus Four impressed Mrs sospan so....
No.3. 2023 Plus Four Smaller tank but better mpg! More comfort, great performance, better build, a modern car in a Morgan skin. Will probably see me out! It's a Morgan evolved from the trads.
I do wish the tank was bigger but not an obstacle to ownership. It's a bit like EV range management but a lot easier! I noted several EV's at charging stations in a M'way service comfort stop. Owners sitting in them on phone, reading, napping and still there when I came out of the rest area. Dedicated Tesla chargers looked ok. Having done several Scotland trips fuel stops are chosen from knowledge. M'way services only as a last resort, satnav shows petrol stations for added help in new areas.

Having owned a traditional and currently a CX Plus Six its like comparing apples and oranges, they are both Morgans or fruit that's where the comparison ends.

Being 6ft 2 ins tall at least I can fit comfortably in the CX, I had to install a small steering wheel just to get in and out of the trad.

Her in doors hated the trad with a passion but is tolerant of the CX enough said.

I have got original tyres with 20k miles on a from new MY23. A significant percentage being on motorways. 5 trips to Scotland giving about 6k just getting there. Off the beaten track up there so slower narrow roads doubling that.
Some " getting a move on" .....no speeding, officer, honest! 🤫😇😬 The car handles better than my previous Plus8.
Wales' 20mph zoning plus other speed restrictions reduce options too. No track days.
Sport mode for quick overtakes.....my co-pilot watches the speedo ( gauge you pervs) and does sometimes comment on the acceleration and , ahem, the overtake speed. All done to minimise the hazardous overtaking manouvre to keep it safer. Clear road, mirror-indicate-go. Job done. No kittens have been harmed when doing this.
Tank capacity? Nowhere near the theoretical. Just use 250 as a rule of thumb leaving a decent margin. Handbook says 38litres? Some say 33 usable. On board computer shows mid 40's mpg on gentle runs giving 327range @33l. Rubbish!
Still much better mpg than the Plus8 though, and that had a 55l tank.
Car is a joy to drive, auto or paddle.
