Great place under new management Well our Son and his lovely wife planned a surprise lunch here and we spent just the best 75th Birthday 4 Hour lunch outside in the shade of the beer garden sans beer as we were all driving, the food was great.

They had driven up (and return) from Cornwall in all the Bank Holiday traffic so massive effort, just the very best of Birthdays spent in the company of the very best there is and with my lovely wife of 53 years at my side always there to put me right when needed (often)..

The unwrapping revealed a trend in the evening .... Family and close friends are irreplacable.

Cobley has its roots in Anglo Saxon and means "clearing (leah) near a hill (cobb)"

Probably where the Dorset village got its name, and Uncle Toms ancestors would have originally lived in clearing near a hill.

Happy Birthday Rich…you are 1 year ahead of us in both age and marriage, but on an equal footing when it comes to… err…refreshment!

Incidentally, we went into Tesco yesterday to get some Glenfiddich and as the checkout operator was removing the wire security cage round the bottle and security tag, I remarked about what lengths we have to go to nowadays to deter the light-handed. “Well”, she remarked, “It doesn’t always work. We had one guy in here this week who had managed to remove the stopper from the bottle whilst still in its cage and decanted the contents into his own bottle!”
(Luckily he was so unsteady on his feet that it was not a difficult arrest)

Did you you do it properly and borrow the grey mare? It is one steep hill down from the Haytor side. My dad's brakes failed on his BSA 350 with mum on the back one of their earlier dates. He was terrified , she loved it.
