I was gladdened to read of his Sons achievement, he would have been so proud.

Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones VC, OBE • Commanding Officer • 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 Paras) 🇬🇧❤️
True heroes never really leave us, but the quiet, aching space they leave behind can echo through generations. This poignant photograph captures a deeply emotional moment on a crisp November morning in 2002, where time seemed to stand still. Exactly two decades after the smoke had finally cleared from the rugged, wind-swept landscapes of the Falklands War, a family stood united in solemn remembrance at Buckingham Palace. The elegant woman is Sara Jones, the resilient widow of Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones, standing alongside their son, Rupert. They were gathered to celebrate Rupert receiving his MBE—a beautiful milestone that fell poignantly on the anniversary of the conflict. Looking closely at their faces, you can feel the profound mixture of unyielding pride and the gentle, enduring sadness that comes with sacrificing a soulmate and a father to the pages of history. 🌿💔🕊️
The story behind their quiet strength takes us back to the legendary Battle of Goose Green in May 1982, where Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones cemented his name into military history. When his beloved paratroopers became desperately pinned down under a devastating web of enemy machine-gun fire, he refused to let his men perish in the dirt. With absolute defiance, he single-handedly charged up a heavily fortified hill, drawing the lethal fire onto himself so his battalion could survive and triumph. He fell on that battlefield, but his heroic sacrifice earned him the Victoria Cross—the nation's highest recognition for bravery. In this photo, twenty years later, his son Rupert stands tall, wearing the exact same steadfast gaze. Rupert would go on to honor his father's memory in the most powerful way imaginable, rising through the ranks of the British Army to eventually become a Major General. 🏅✨🦅
To Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones, though you were taken from this world far too soon, your warrior spirit lives on through the beautiful family you left behind and the freedom you fought to protect. We stand in absolute awe of your ultimate sacrifice, your unbreakable leadership, and the enduring grace of your loved ones who carry your torch forward. Thank you for your service, your immortal legacy, and for showing us the true cost of extraordinary courage under fire. Rest in peace, Colonel—your watch is done, but your name will never be forgotten! 🇬🇧🙏❤️
