You're not wrong there - what a useless teaching method that was. My elder brother had it inflicted on him at his primary school in the 60's and as a result has struggled with spelling all of his life. Luckily for me I went to a different school which used more traditional techniques.

My sister was the same... 2-1/2 years younger than I, but different teacher(s).
The chap who took a lot of us for Eng. Lang. was a stickler for spelling, correct use of punctuation marks and grammar in general. Unfortunately, I haven't remembered all the grammar rules laugh2

Nice one on the armour BTW, found that quite interesting, together with other info. re: Grill & Grille...

Perhaps we'd better let Nono have his thread back now grin2
