(entry level) Caterham Seven 160

Hi all,
What do you think about the (entry level) Caterham Seven 160?confused2Is the Caterham Seven 160 the right solution to the issue: to have a low buying&maintenance costs and high fun-to drive (second)car?

Wondered why not a (entry level) Morgan 3-Wheeler (powered by a mass-production jap engine) or even a (entry level) Morgan 4/4 (powered by the Suzuki engine 3 cil turbo fitted in the Seven 160)? somestick

Regards
Claudio

Personally, I think the MTW is Morgan's answer to the Caterham (Se7ven 160)and they should focus on getting/keeping the production costs of that as low as possible? .......

+1
....and my opinion is that FIRST: MMC have to replace the S&S engine (of the entry level MTW) that is (IMHO) a sensible part of the final price......

A most cost effective Morgan three wheeler would make more sense but would it be as enjoyable with a low power engine? ooo

....wondered if a Kawasaki engine 2.053 c.c, 2 cil, 76 kw, could fit well.........................?

It might be 'entry level' to the marketing boffins and journo's, but to me I see it as an 'honest car you can enjoy by getting the most out of'.

As for an entry level Morgan 4 wheeler; I don't see why not. As I suggested in another thread the Ford 1.0 L EcoBoost I-3 engine would make a fantastic entry point model for Morgan.

....really MTW is overpriced (IMHO).......

But that's what he wanted it for and on skinny 175's with little grip, it's a balanced delight. So much better in my view that the new R620 with Veyron-beating performance - and a £50k price tag. There's no need to have the fastest thing surely - it's not a race is it?

I guess most Morgan owners understand the case for handling balance, character and feedback - be it good or bad - as it's all part of the fun of owning cars like ours. A good friend of mine has a MacLaren 12C and whilst it's terribly nice in a £200k+ kind of way, it's way dull to drive in the UK once you've had a couple of license-threatening blasts to beyond 70mph. My M3W, the entry-level Se7en or I suspect any other Morgans on here give thrills well below 70mph and are the better for it.

Less is so often more!

I totally agree with you. Whilst I like my Roadster, I can't thrash it without risking losing my licence. My 4/4 Sport was regularly driven right up through the revs, rear wheels sliding through bends with a huge grin on my face. Those days are gone now apart from my brief forays onto Prescott Hill or Shelsley Walsh. I see my Roadster as just that...a "roadster" whilst the 4/4 was a sports car.

I just had a look at Claudio's web site (not for the first time). I really like some of his design exercises and I am particularly taken by his design for a 3 wheeler (all be it in Caterham livery). Of particular interest to me is his choice of, not only a more modern look, but more modern wheel and tyre sizes.

To me this is the three wheeler that Morgan should have built instead of concentrating on the completely retro look.

Claudio, why don't you develop that look into a proposal for a Morgan three wheeler of the future, complete with side and front views, and post them on Talk Morgan. It is bound to be controversial but will be interesting smile

As an owner I agree!! The M3W is over priced!! But 1000 have been sold - so the price point has not deterred those buyers! Discuss!!!

The value of the brand.
Same reason that many of us like expensive watches or our partners will spend fortunes on shoes/bags etc.

Thanks Peter for watching my design exercises!

Morgan is a trade mark with Heritage, and we must consider it when we propose something new. So with regard to a new Morgan 3 wheeler with a more modern look & big wheels/tyres, I don't believe that's the right way to go (IMHO). The 3-Wheeler very traditional look is the Morgan model we can change only within certain limits(e.g. the engine, but always a two cil./V).
