I've always had a soft stop for these cars - When I was a lad, I remember my dad cramming his three sons into the rear seat of a demo model at the Earls Court Motor Show, rubbing his chin and trying to convince himself to make it the family car.

Many years later, my best mate, who happens to be the Honda dealer in Port Macquarie showed me some brochures for the new Honda S2000 - the deal was struck and I said I would have one.

The day came, when it arrived (and also when I told the missus what I had done) - She said I was a selfish b*$#&#$d, because I would not be able to take our kids in it (I didn't have the nerve to tell her that I didn't have the slightest intention of having our grubby, ice-cream covered offspring in it anyhow!!)

To cut a long story short, I crept back to the dealership with my tail well and truly between my legs and welched on the deal - But.... Happy days!! - On the way home, I noticed a sad little Stag parked on the side of the road with a "For Sale" sign on her

Well, all the brats could fit in it, and by the time I finished, it cost as much as the Honda!!

Your example looks wonderful.
I had a Pimento Red one back in the 1970s and I remember the exhaust made a gorgeous V8 burble sound.
It had to go as it just would not start from cold. Started first time every time when warm.

I don't suppose one should ask how you got it warm if it wouldn't start when cold?

Always thought as a lad Triumph was way ahead of others Fuel injection, 16 valve head, V8 , Shame they are not back.

The Stag was so close to being wonderful but so unreliable.
My wife had one before we were married. After a blown head gasket, replacement exhaust and numerous minor niggles the differential broke and came through the floor. At that point she sold the car, but still swoons at the sight of one now.
I suppose if she hadn't sold the Stag we'd never have been married as she'd still be sitting at the side of a road waiting for another AA man - or may have cut her losses and married one (she got to meet enough while owning a Stag!).

Like it - there has been a full Stag "rescue" report in Practical Classics for some months now being done (done?) downunder...

Waited for the Oz summer perhaps?
