John, what do you estimate the fitting time at?

Oh, I love those aeroscreens
What a pity, that it is so complicated to have them installed on my car.

I didn't time it. I started by spraying penetrating oil into the screws holding on the screen & the nuts holding the screen brackets to the body.

Then the job was complicated by the need to modify the standard folding screen kit to fit the Simmonds modified screen. That was actually quite easy as I could use the old screen bracket as a jig clamping them together in my workmate.

I chose the Hearts of England kit as it was solid stainless not chromed & so the cut part blends well. I polished the cut with a very light application of an angle grinder.Fitting the kit is easy and the instructions are adequate.

You then need to remove the wiper blades & ensure the aerial is down to be able to fold the screen.Then you need to remove the pin that holds down the tonneau to release the tounge of metal at the bottom of the screen. I made the hole in this bigger so it would slip over the pin once refitted. I guess 1 to 2 hrs to get to here.

Now comes the for me worrying bit of drilling into the leather on the scuttle. I wanted to hit the ash frame under the steel but of course not hit the dashboard veneer!! Simmonds don't send instructions.

I did think of going behind the ash rail but then the feet hit the screen lower rail & it wouldn't fold down. In the end I chose self tapping screws to fix them & used masking tape to make a line just towards the rear of the car in line with the demist vents that butt onto the ash rail. This meant I knew where the rail was and I could mark up the tape with the screens in place to drill. I then trebled checked the logic & quadruple checked that no wires etc were in the way & drilled.

This took a few weeks to think up the method mull it over & be happy with it and less than 2hrs to do.

Done by a professional I guess all of this with a standard windscreen is max 1 1/2 hrs labour.

I still need to find a new rearview mirror for the new arrangement but am very pleased so far.

I too have aero screens and the Simmonds feet - love them to death and have just returned from the Classic Le Mans where I travelled both ways with only the aero screens.

Only problem I have had with the Simmonds feet is that the knurled nut which holds the screens in place could become loose, particularly if I go fast over a bump. When the screen comes loose you run the risk that the screen will pivot around a that is not good. What I have just done is to drill a hole in the side of the knurled nut so that I can get a tommy key in to give it that little extra. I took the four nuts to a metal machinist today and will be trying them out tonight at high speed.
