MR2 Hill Climb car
First pic is at Wiscombe last year for those that do not know the car.
the next 3 are after me removing the dash and re-positioning the heater/vent controls for know.
Need to tidy up some wires and cover the heater controls with some black core.
NeilM is ordering some polycarbonate for the glass replacement, this will be tricky as have to heat bend the side windows. Thinking of removing the petrol tank and putting a small race one in the rear boot to save more weight. Also going to investigate the bumpers under the plastic cover, could be worth honeycomb drilling or removing if we feel brave enough to loose them altogether. I am going to hunt for some front GPS wings as well.

Not that I aware of we can keep taking stuff off until to is no longer sensible to do so structurally. Front wings are bolt on and not structural, rear wings car be cut away to an extent but form part of the structural strength for the rear springs so this needs investigating, I know some racers have done it in the past. NeilM suggested we removed the fuel tank which is under the tunnel in the centre of the car and replaced with a small 2 gallon ali one in the boot, I think this would save a lot.
If we got a trailer, I would immediately remove all the lights, the fonts are heavy and then there is the up/down motor and all the gibbins that move them, I bet that lot is heavy. I reckon if you really went to town you could get 100-120kg off the car.

New battery fitted and wired up, the old Varta battery weighed in at 14.1kg and the new at 6.4kg so a weight saving of 7.7kg. New battery in boot So far 17.7kg saved, so 30kg to go hopefully.

Adrian, when are you next at Wiscombe. Hi Martin, first of the season is Saturday 25 April. It's the Torbay Motor Club and there is usually a good mix of cars. Hope we might see you there. Thanks Adrian, I am planning to attend the Williams Open Day but could make the afternoon.

Oil change and filter done this morning, filled with Fuchs Titan Pro race S 4-40w, used this oil in the +8 before is probably the best for maintaining viscosity when hot and reduces running temps. But isn't cheap.
Also removed a couple of other bits of metal in the weight saving exercise, glass next, wido mechanisms and cut some metal from doors.
