Moderate or good, occasionally poor Talk Morgan Addict

I've swapped my Morgan...
...for a week anyway. My youngest daughter is a huge VW camper-van fanatic so as a reward for finishing her GCSE's I've rented a 1963 split-screen. Having guided it back over the South Downs this afternoon on a route I regularly drive in the Morgan, I can say it is a very different driving experience!

That is really lovely and I can greatly admire it but I know I wouldn't want to own one. That's where I am too, love the whole idea but would I lay out good money for one, being completely frank NO!

Didn't they measure 0-60 in minutes?

Some have tweaked engines and brakes. But slow enough to be in the way as standard.

Some have tweaked engines and brakes. But slow enough to be in the way as standard. My tweaked 2332cc drag spec 1958 Samba was pretty quick and a lot more expensive than my Morgan ... But yes standard 'splits' are quite slow. The wife has a 1979 bay window with 2.0, fuel injection which is quick enough in stock form, stops okay too and is a fully loaded camper, as was my Samba!
Looking for another Morgan!

Didn't they measure 0-60 in minutes? I don't think they could reach 60 could they? They're all 1.5 litre and up so reach 60 easily. From 1967 they had better freeway ratios and will cruise at 70.
Looking for another Morgan!

Had a 74 Aussie bus fully refurbished in 2006. Brand new air cooled engine from Mexico, refurb box etc, etc.
The only thing I chose were the wheels and slightly dropped suspension.
I don't drive it - it is my wife's however after our second daughter has used it to ferry her bridesmaids around at her wedding in September- it think I'll sell it.
They are great fun- but as the children have left home- it gets less use.
Driving one is a bit like driving a Morgan- you always get into a conversation with someone about something.

Well we've had a great week with the split-screen. We picniced in the New Forest on Tuesday and drove over to Littlehampton for fish & chips on the beach yesterday. The highlight of the week was my daughter's school prom on Wednesday evening where the van stole the show! I knew we'd got a winner when a girl told Jessica she'd wished she had been with us, after stepping out of a brand new Bentley.
I was expecting it to be very underpowered but it wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Hills could be a bit of a struggle but really weren't that bad and on the flat it would cruise nicely at 55 mph; I was particularly pleased with how well it would pull in third gear. However stopping was another matter, I think it's the only vehicle I've ever driven that makes the Highway Code's stopping distance chart look optimistic. We covered 350 miles and averaged just over 26 mpg.
I said in my original post it's a very different driving experience to my 4/4, but where it is similar is in the reaction it gets both from other VW drivers - I never failed to get a wave from another bus, no matter what type - and with the general public. I lost count of the number of people who came up and told me they'd either once owned one or had always wanted one!
Pricey but all in all, money well spent.
