I thought you all might be interested in a couple of quick phone shots of the first sub £30k 4/4 to come out of the factory. Sorry about the quality.

Sports body, Ambla instead of leather for all surfaces, silver painted wheels.

It generated some positive interest with a couple of guys on my tour this afternoon to the extent that one of them has gone off to talk to his wife and then contact his local dealer. He was interested in a three wheeler but once he'd seen the 4/4 he changed his mind.

I quite like the colour, its different, then again I wonder if it looks like an undercoat.

Can I ask, what makes it a 'speedster' is it just not having a screen? On your description you say it has a 'Sports body', but comparing it to a photo of a 4/4 it looks identical, is it not?

Like many manufacturers I think Morgan have a problem in getting the next generation into their cars. Thirty somethings will not have been brought up, as we were, with this kind of car, and be looking for the nostalgia thing, nor do they have unlimited funds, as they have families and mortgages etc, but stripped down standard model like this has worked for other manufacturers, look at Caterhams 'little' 160 with the 660cc Suzuki engine and gearbox, going back to a live rear axle. Selling like hot cakes apparently, the one local one I know of has been bought by a young teacher in his 30's and he is a pleased as punch with it.

I would love to see the 'Speedster' name adopted for this, is has a cache, and I bet they will sell a few ...or more.

Why did they bother with external door handles?

Because, bizarrely, deletion of external door-handles is a cost option. At least, it was when I specced mine.

Agreed. Apart from the obvious reliability issues, I also went with a 4/4 for practicality reasons and my roof goes up often!

But ... I do still have a hankering for a more raw experience and if I go down that route it would have to be the three wheeler. The 4/4 was the nearest I could get to the M3W experience without the problems.

And who knows maybe even a ride!

I am looking forward to seeing it in the flesh - as it were.

I think with a bit of added spec this could we'll be a great choice for many new Morgan entrants.

In fact the M3W that I was interested in is still for sale (one year on) - it's the all black one at Oakmere. Financially I'm not sure I want to take a p/ex hit on my 4/4 and would probably only change if it was a 1:1 deal ...

The cars without a spare wheel and just the flat back panel were until very recently called "Sport" models. It is effectively the base model and the spare wheel is an option.

I called it a "speedster" as its a similar concept to the Plus8 Speedster.
