The ground is sloping.
In fact the pavement is raised at that spot.

There are plenty of perfectly photographs that could be used on the cover.

No more drawings. I agree....a dreadful cover. Mind you, apart from a couple of TM contributors articles, the rest of the magazine was pretty poor too.
