BLR 5 Three Wheeler

At a recent family gathering it came to light that my late fathers best friend owned a three wheeler in the 1950s.

I was so excited to hear about this and even more curious when someone managed to find the photos of it parked outside our old house.

I just love the single headlamp!

Seems incredible that 60 or so years later I parked my car in the very same spot not knowing that a Morgan with family connections had been in the exact spot some 60 years earlier.

I know very little about classic Morgans so any information on this car would be appreciated.

I have done a search but no such registration exist of the DVLA site so I guess its no more.

Try Martyn Culling on here he seems to know most/all there is to know about these lovely creatures.

Nice story thumbs.

It may have gone abroad...

As for a single headlight, it looks like there is a mounting bracket on t'other side for another smile

Water cooled Matchless engine, very likely a 3 speed box.
See if you can find a copy of Morgan Three Wheeler by Peter Miller...

I rather suspect either the headlight mounting bracket broke, or the headlight nut unscrewed itself and the headlight fell off! Certainly on my earlier JAP engined car there is no shortage of vibration.

Send a scan of the photos and details to the MTWC registrar. The car might be known to the club, but in any event, it might fill in some history.

Many thanks Martyn,
I will contact them and see if they have any information.

Any clues as to the age and model?

I guess Mr Blair would prefer not to be recognised in any car especially when the Iraq enquiry comes out this month!

Nice plate though. It is available on the DVLA site for £6250.

Car is a Matchless MX4 engined Super Sports. Barrelback body, so if original, the second half of 30s. Number plate would date it near exactly as it's only the fourth car after BLR started on number plates.

Width looks right, although the drop on the front cross-head may be non-standard. Mudguards are non-original, as are the sidelights (it shouldn't have any...). Something odd about the engine, I'm guessing a cover has been added to the ignition, but I can't see enough detail to be sure.

This site is a good read on the history of Morgan three wheelers.
