An very unusual car - 1988 4/4 wide bodied, low-line with uprated 1905 cvh engine. 144000 miles but new engine/gearbox and clutch at 85k. Since then I've attended to every detail of its continuing existence (with much help from Mike Duncan). Paid £10k for it in 1999, slightly perturbed to be advised by a well known Morgan dealer that I might just get that sum back! (I thought you could only buy an old smoker for that dosh...!)

Was the uprated engine at birth or done later?

Nice car, I think the low valuation is probably just a reaction to it not being standard, I would think.

My car is similarly non-standard, my guess is that I would also get a very low valuation were I to trade it in, but since I've got no intention of ever selling it the prospect doesn't bother me.

Engine uprated at 85k and the low valuation is based on the mileage I think. The previous owner did 130000 in ten years! (a record?). In a sense mileage is irrelevant since anything that needs doing is done. Also 1988 was during the period when Morgan started to exercise some quality control - galvanized chassis, treated wooden frame, etc. I had new leather about 8 years ago and re-treated the frame whilst everything was out. My guess is that the car is in the 1£5k - £17k area but (like you Tim) I've no particular desire to sell it.

I agree - I keep an eye on Morgan prices and certainly no less than £15K

£10K is probably what a dealer would like to buy it for to make money but it would certainly be up for between £17-£19 from a dealer

Looks too smart for that money....ship it to Aus you'll get a lot more than for it.

the rear 'haunches' (? - the top of the boot area / rear wings) looks really attractive

There is a wide variation in dealer offers. We were offered £10.5k for our 1985 car on a trade in for a new 4/4 in November 2013 by one well known dealer. Another offered us an extra £4k - which was the deal we accepted. They marked the car up by a good margin and sold it in 2 weeks. I won, the dealer won and I would hope that the new owner has won.

Before using a dealer try other online places car and classic etc
