Thanks Frank, I hope you enjoyed the north east, the main roads, like in most places, can be dull, but there are many gems along the way.
It was a pretty stupid place for a ship to run aground there, 2miles from port and nobody on watch!
Cullen is one of those gems and so is the soup apparently, but I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to food and I've never tried it.

Yes John,
While I didn't envy you your long trip home from Torbay to Bucks in that storm, you made my day meeting up and driving the coast to Exeter with me. 
Ewn, If you like Fish and imagine a creamy Fish Soup then you must give Cullen Skink a try. I would choose it where ever it appears on a menu, hoping that it was made by a North East Coast, Scots person

This was a few days ago and already the hull has been smashed to pieces.

Always sad to see a shipwreck.
I guess all it takes can be pushing your luck and fishing that bit closer to a known danger and for the engine to stutter and fail...?

The Ocean Maid going aground had passed me by, guess I didn't notice it on my way to Tesco yesterday ... well remember the Sovereign incident .... at the time it was put about they'd tried for a shortcut inside the light but misjudged the tide ... in retrospect that must have been to spare the blushes of the lookout!
My favourite was the one that drove straight up New Aberdour beach under power because no-one was watching and the nav was wrongly set .... because the tide was well up it had to sit there several days waiting for a high tide .... plenty of time for a decent audience to assemble as a couple of his mates dragged him off ...High on embarrassment value but no injuries or serious damage.
Frank .... pity I didn't know you were about .... just 10 mins drive away and I would have popped down to say hello.

Ps ... totally agree on the Cullen Skink .... have been known to drive along to Cullen just for a plate ..... if you have a day to kill there are a whole string of lovely little fishing harbours along the coast between Cullen and Fraserburgh .... hopping from one to the next is a fine way to spend some time
