NEW 1600 CVH Intake
Been thinking about the new carb and induction set up on the race car for for some months.... The CVH sits slightly further forward than the cross flow or TR engine and the front carbs using DCOE's are shrouded by the inner bay pannel (inner wheelarch).
I wanted a positive pressure manifold with minimal losses and ideally must out-perform an open to atmosphere (ie. just trumpets with no filtration). But with must use a filter for longevity and require no alternation to the bonnet or ideally the visible part of the wing.
Having come up with a few sketches at home and A LOT of measuring, the parts all arrived over the last few weeks and....
Over the last few weekends and all this weekend we've finally developed a new intake for the 4/4 CVH. I've not seen this on any other Morgan before and has been developed following the concept found on the Aero 8.
It should provide performance beyond that of bare trumpets & carbs due to the ram effect of the intake.

45's And will probably be on 36mm chokes to keep charge velocity high... You can get problems with 40's at large choke sizes. Within 7mm of carb diameter.

That's a nice job. Any thoughts on carbs icing, or weakening off at higher speeds with the ram effect?

Not icing.. but leaning off yes... might need a lambda sensor in car to keep an eye on it and go up a jet size.

My Gilbern Invader had terrible icing problems at 70mph, even on days when you wouldn't expect it. It had a simple fibreglass box with a filter, not unlike the Roadster but much smaller, and the air was unheated. The carb was a twin choke weber - can't remember the model number now!!!!

Shades of Kawasaki GTR. Though with the carbs directly behind the engine (OK they were on rubber intakes) I could never figure that one.
Wonder how much ram effect you are expecting? Cheers,

The carbs are on rubber hoses to stop fuel frothing. Webber use rubber and nylon gaskets to get round this. .
The RAM effect will be minimal however enough to mitigate any flow losses in the intake in general.
