From sun to snow
Spectacular, all day trip to Durness and back, the perfect tonic after the stress of spending an hour on a platform in Manchester Piccadilly, trying to get to the airport, while some poor sod decided life wasn’t worth living. I do business in the rat race, but I would want to live there! The roof was off the whole time, but what I thought would just be a quick shower, turned out to be a biblical hail storm😄. The stuff was an inch thick everywhere, including down my back, thank goodness the wipers stood up to the task. I stopped and chucked on the roof, but it was too late, everything was soaked.. Torrents of water gushed down the roads, making driving hazardous, then within a few miles, bang! Bright sunshine again. I was still 150 miles from home yet, so roof off again and it all dried away.

Traffic was pretty much non existent in the mountains, I did meet a group of classic mustangs headed by a Lotus elise, they all had yellow front number plates so a long way from home. Further along, a litter of Caterhams zoomed past, all of us glad to see each other. Yet to meet another Morgan, as per Kevfits post, get them out.........if I were a car, there would be nothing more refreshing than huge gulps of the freshest air and a bath in mountain rain! The only clog up was around Inverness, I made towards Fort Augustus from the East, intending to go back up the other side of Loch Ness, but I had to turn around, the road was closed for a cycle race. This wasn’t a disaster, there are lots of other nice routes, the problem was the amount of other cyclist not in the race wandering around on their bikes. You do see some sights, Lycra can look Uber cool, or is some cases, it looks like a bin bag filled with mince , well, well, it’s their road too and I’d rather everyone was outside enjoying life instead of cooped up indoors. It’s nice to read all the comments from home and abroad on here about the breathtaking scenery and I’d highly recommend a visit, you won’t need much money, other than Petrol and a bed for the night, it’s all free!

Nice to drive with the hood down, but there something special about driving through a hail storm, all snug and warm with the hood raised. Great pictures too.

I know what you mean about the cosyness with the roof up, it’s probably why people like caravans and tents. I wasn’t quite so cosy that day, the hail stones had gone down my back and gathered in my boxers! I drove a while with the roof on and the sides off to dry the fabric,( of the roof, not my boxers), I actually think the car looks it’s best like this.
