I have been working out how to fit a high level brake light so that I can take some luggage on tour, almost ready now bar some finishing touches, (tidy up the wiring and hide the bolt heads with neoprene!). Also the car needs a good polish and the tyres need blacking. Oh, and some GB letters, which arrived after I got back

Yes, on Ross motorsports club's bluebell rally, 120 miles ( and hugely enjoyable - with Swanmog), it gradually worked loose and required running repairs. I have some ancient loctite thread lock from my time in the Gen-set business and have now used that to secure all the fastenings. there is no room in the bracket for a rubber (neoprene!) liner and so I have used the threadlock to make a strong connection at the rack end without risk of marking the rack. Test drove again today and did 3 miles without a problem, so it's ready for Austria.

And, how can I tell if it's vibrating? The Whole car vibrates, so if the light appears not to be, then it must be vibrating in some sort of counter-harmonic fashion! However, I happened to have some Vaseline, so I greased the spikes which connect the rack at the bottom, excuse the word, in an attempt to reduce transmitted vibrations, and the top brackets sit on neoprene. the rig is very lightweight anyway, it appears to be very stable. judging by the frequency with which the bonnet catches vibrate loose, I'd say it's a whole generation ahead of Morgan robustness.
Finally I have fixed the uprights to be not absolutely vertical, so that the non-parallelogramity will mitigate against vibration. I trust that's all clear

Did you use ssteel bolts and nuts? When small ssteel are used on vibrating parts this is a well known Problem. Ssteel bolts geht longer but don't go back complete to their old length.

Hi BMG ,no, not stainless as I only need them for my summer tour. they are what we call 'cheap and cheerful' here in England. So hopefully not inelastic

This was my first attempt at fitting a high level stop light. I attached the light unit to a home made aluminium bracket then fixed the whole thing to the case with the wiring hidden inside. A connector to the "whale tail" stop light allows me to remove or access the case and use it as normal.



Version Two uses the same light fitting but with a simple octopus strap fitted through the base and wiring as per version One.



Version Two is very easy to make and fit with the advantage that it can be added to any size or shape of luggage or other items to be carried and won't obstruct your rear view.

What a great idea to put a Morgan script badge on the case

In version ONE, the Morgan strap fits through the slots in the luggage rack and in TWO, you need to secure what ever you are carrying to the luggage rack and the octopus straps holding the light can be adjusted accordingly.

Case was A$35.00 from a second hand shop, light parts about A$25.00 while the strap and script badge from our Morgan dealer...
