1936 Morgan 4-4

I originally mistook this for a Riley until I noticed the badge and looked up the details in the programme which I have copied out as they appear above. This does not look like any other Morgan 4-4 I have seen and with a 1496 cc engine it does not appear to have a regular factory supplied Climax engine, can any body fill me in on the origins of the apparently unusually (for a 4-4) low body and large engine ?

Thanking you as always in anticipation.

Wishing everyone at Talk Morgan a healthy and happy New Year.

Cheers

All the recorded information shows that this IS a Climax engine but modified to 1496cc. In terms of the bodywork, it looks as if what has happened is the wings and scuttles have been removed and cycle wings fitted ( much the same as the Le Mans replicas)

You can see a good shot of the car in action at:

A Great Link G.
In the File, Click 'Next' for a great Morgan Rear End Shot.
'Next' again for a 'Riley' and 'Prev' for another Riley. The similarity is just noticeable. sherlock

Go Forward and Backwards quite a few more from here and there is Sue Derbyshire in her Super Aero

Go Backwards from here quite a few pics and there is Tony Lees in his Vauxhall Viper

Hi Frank,
yes, I saw the Riley shots but I have to be careful when I see Rileys, I start to dribble and my bank manager starts to tremble! Great cars with some really advanced features
Cheers,
G

Thanks for your responses G & Frank.

Here are a couple of links to some more pics :-

http://img23.imageshack.us/i/61dscn8983sc.jpg/

Riley Sprite which I confused for a Morgan 4-4

http://img210.imageshack.us/i/dscn9086sc.jpg/

Riley 16/4 which has similarities to Dr Prykes Morgan 4-4 XSU 374 I originally posted at the top of this thread.

http://img213.imageshack.us/i/image1156sc.jpg/

Alistair Rew's Morgan Aero with front suspension which looks much closer to the front suspension of Dr Prykes 4-4 top of the thread

http://img262.imageshack.us/i/01image056sc.jpg/

than either of

http://fans.rowdy.com/art_tidesco/go/gallery/item/118518008?pref_tab=photos&type=photo

the 4-4's of similar age I have seen before.

The bonnet dimensions and overall shape of XSU 374 hardly seem to resemble the last two 4-4's at all and the radiator grill of XSU 374 looks much shorter IMHO.

Oddly the 1496cc engine size exactly matches that given for the Sprite too.

Could XSU 374 be a one off ?

Thanking you again for and in anticipation of your responses :-)

Best

Great photo Art and thanks Gerwyn for the link, I really enjoyed seeing those cars being driven with a vengeance! Is the Matthew Parkin (1927 Frazer Nash Super Sports) the former Matthew Parkin of MMC I wonder, does anyone know? coffee
