Management of cooling air flow
The deflector is done, just need the salt to disappear off the roads for a test run now, note the hole in the middle is to poke my jack through.

Hopefully the salt will be gone soon, then I am curious about your measurements. Hopefully so and of course it WILL need a high speed run to test properly  Incidentally the perspective of the photos make it look rather lumpy and kind of hanging down, it isn't and doesn't and once off the axle stands can't be seen - honest

If your trying to home bend Ali at this scale - use a piece of Soil pipe as a buck and some 2” Batton with clamps to make the end tabs.

Also make a parallelogram piece to put under the engine.. it makes a big difference.

Went to the Motor museum at Gaydon today. Fan still coming on from time to time so it looks like I’ll have to look in to covering the rest of the engine bay. I gues your car has an oil cooler, I’m wondering if I need to do that, I’d say by the oil pressure the oil is hotter now I’ve deflected air flow away from the sump. The fan immediately drops the temperature so it has to still be an air flow issue.

Aluminium sheet ordered to cover the rest. I will do it in two parts, front first and up to the exhaust which goes across under the engine here. I will put a deflector lip on the back edge to see if that helps. If no improvement I will do the second half. If that doesn't work it all comes off and a scoop will be fitted but that means moving the number plate. Don't want to go down this route yet because that's just causing more air build up under the bonnet therefore more drag. I will also fit a switch to operate the fan, if the engine still goes hot I will run with the fan on until I get it right. I'll beat this one way or another!

That's a complete under tray installed in three sections now. The first two sections trailing edges are angled slightly down and the next secions angled up to create a louvre effect. Too much salt about again so will report findings when I can. Hopefully the drop in engine temperature will cause a drop in oil temperature too.
I've also installed an override switch for the cooling fan in case I don't get the result I'm looking for.
I've also read up a lot more on this and can see that the under tray has long been a solution to overheating along with the air scoop. trouble is my car has a full front bumper with under slung number plate - right in the way of a scoop. I'm reluctant to change this yet.

I'm reluctant to change this yet. . My old +8. Had the number plate under the bumper on the off side. The previous owner lived up a three ply dirt track.it certainly helped with mobile cooling.
