Sheila Hancock's 4/4 "twin"

I've snipped this out of the TV Times from 29th Nov 1969.

Each week the magazine's "Gemini Car Club" featured a celebrity and their motor. If you owned the same make and model you could send in a coupon with the chance of appearing in a later edition as that celebrity's motoring twin.

Unfortunately - although I have Bob Monkhouse and his Capri, Mike and Bernie Winters with their Jensen Interceptors and Reggie Bosenquet with a monstrous Mercedes 300C - I don't seem to have the edition with Sheila Hancock and her Morgan 4/4. Does anyone here happen to have it?

If Mr Vickers was 25 in 69 then we are the same age, so does this now entitle me to also be the "Other" twin of the entertaining Sheila Hancock? At that time I owned a 1966 D reg Austin 1100 and sold for 450 pounds 2 days before emigrating to the land of Sand, Surf and opportunity!
A 20 pound holiday that I am still enjoying every day. Benidorm eat your heart out.......

PS: Mr Vickers looks like the double to Anthony Armstrong Jones, alas I did not marry a princess swmbo

When 'Wassy' (Jonathon Ross) was talking cars on Top Gear at the weekend, he never mentioned his Roadster.

I noticed that.
There was another major faux pas in one of the articles (probably an incorrect car name, but I can't remember what it was...).

Cheers,

Sheila Hancock's Morgan appears in her book "The two of us" It seems to be a Royal Ivory 4/4 fourseater.

Royal Ivory 4/4 fourseater. What a top choice!

I'm going to wander down to the library right now to see if they have the book.

Two bits of luck. Firstly, there is still a library. Secondly, they had the book.

No doubt it's a four-seater in the picture, although in the text she mentions that she and John Thaw (who owned an MG) each had two seater cars.

(I'd still like to see that original TV Times article - it's from 25 Oct 1969 I've discovered. Check your recycling bins!)

[Edit]: I'd forgotten the forum "feature" that prevents you from adding further images to an existing Gallery topic.

The picture from the book can be found here:

Not any help with the article request but an interesting insight into Sheila's passion for driving - spirited I think aposite !

An outtake of an enlightening interview in the Times.

The couple had another daughter Joanna and an even more family-friendly car beckoned until Hancock visited the motor show at Earls Court and fell in love with the swooping lines of the old-fashioned Morgans on display. There was only one problem — the waiting list. “Then I saw Peter Morgan at the show,” she says, “and I told him that I had fallen in love with his car. I chatted him up — to hell with it — I jumped the queue.”

After travelling to the factory in Malvern she picked out a metallic cream model and fitted two tiny seats in the back for her children. But her infatuation was short-lived: every time it rained the windows leaked, soaking the children in the back.

Hancock delayed the inevitable for a while — wrapping the children in towels every time they went out — but she knew it couldn’t go on. “I thought, ‘I’ve got to give up this car’,” she remembers. “It was one of the most depressing days of my life when I sold it to a Morgan dealer.”

Aposite indeed, thanks for that. Do you have the date of that Times article by any chance?
