Triumph TR4a-IRS

My New at the time 1968 TR. I put 55K miles on it in a year and something in the clutch broke. So to fix it itrequired an engine pull and if I was going that far I might as well change the engine and thetransmission.

289 Ford V8 with BorgWarner 4 Speed. Relocated the battery into the boot and offset the steering around the engine. Worked very well!

It was fun and much more manageable than the Bugeye Sprite that I stuffed a Ford 260 into before I got drafted into the military. I got blown up and when in the hospital learning to walk again my parents sold the Sprite s I started over with the TR when I got out of the military.
You would not believe the surprise on the faces of Porsche, Tiger and Cobra drivers of the day seeing the TR leaving the:in the dust. The Conra was the only one that was a dead heat.
However, I was thoroughly trounced by a 1967Mini Copper “S” that was stage 5 tuned. Probably out of Dan Gurneys shop. I couldn’t catch the guy after the third stop light changed. Pretty impressive and a fine demonstration of power to weight ratio.

Thanks John, the best part of doing it was the opportunity to rip out all the things that were made by Lucas and put in Stewart Warner instruments and the Ford generator and regulator. Never had electrical issues.

The TR looks just so good and it seems you had the best light Earth can offer when taking the pics, Lightspeed.

In addition genuine black plate California cars have a special touch to me.
And your engine transformation certainly had made her a stunning one-off. Very cool and thanks for sharing.

Thank you :-) The photos were taken on the Big Sur Coast and it indeed was a nice day!

Thank you, it was a Cadillac Gold GM color which had a percentage of metalflake in it.

Great colour and very unusual, I guess it wasn't an original colour, but been resprayed?

I keep looking at TR's for a new toy, but the 2,3 and 4 seem to go up every time I look. It seems the best value now is the TR6 which doesn't seem to have risen in price as much as the rest of the range. The TR7 is, of course, awful and not a proper TR, so not worth considering.
