My New at the time 1968 TR. I put 55K miles on it in a year and something in the clutch broke. So to fix it itrequired an engine pull and if I was going that far I might as well change the engine and thetransmission.

289 Ford V8 with BorgWarner 4 Speed. Relocated the battery into the boot and offset the steering around the engine. Worked very well!

I came very close to buying a TR6 in the seventies. I drove a nearly new one and the memory stays with me. It was yellow.....

I looked at TR5s a few years ago but prices were ramping up even then.

My TR4 was comfortable and handled well but it was a bit on the weak side, structurally. I his the carcass of a critter (big one) in the road at highway speed. It knock the steering out of alignment which did not surprise me. I had it realigned and went on my merry way for several thousand more miles. One fine day after a freeway run I was driving slowly through our town and missed a driveway so I stopped and backed up and a gentle speed and hit the brakes to stop and turn into that driveway. Then BANG, the right front A-arm landed in the street along with the spring. Had that happened at speed I would have made the news, but as it turned out I just walked to the end of the block to a service station and borrowed a floor jack and rolled the car down the block on the jack into the station. The tower that held the lower A-Arm bolts had bent/twisted when I hit the carcass and that put extra sideways load on the mounting bolts and they sheered off leaving everything in the street.
I took the front suspension apart and welded new towers in place and took those wimpy ones out.

I’ve got a TR6 with a Rover V8 engine fitted. Not manically fast, but a lovely thing. The Rover is 100lbs lightert han the original lump. I’ll never sell it......

My 1964 TR4 was a great car, but never as quick as my 1961 Plus 4. (My Morgan TR3 engine was rebuilt with TR4 liners.) I still have the TR4 and I'm replacing the rusty sheet metal with a Hathaway Hunter fiberglass body, which might make it a bit quicker.

I looked into a TR6 in 1973, but the American-spec TR6 was sluggish compared to the British version. But the TR6 has since become very popular among American British-car enthusiasts because they are now antiques and the owners can tune the TR6 engines to their potential (in most states).

I’ve been looking at TR3s and 4s to replace my Roadster which went last Autumn. I might be a bit too fussy but some of the prices being asked for good ones is being a bit silly. The bubble must burst one day! I’ll still get one but at the moment I seem to have been diverted!

I've had two TR6's and didn't like either of them.

What didn't you like Deano? You might save me the hassle of buying one some time.
