Photo3: Put either a fuse or resettable circuit breaker in the heavy brown wire that leads from the starter relay/solenoid through the bulkhead and back out to the fusebox on the offside. That brown lead carries all power for electrical items such as lights, gauges &c. and should be protected. (Don't ask how I know!!) I fitted a 30A fusible link to my '76 while doing a partial rewire. I also added an additional fuse box alongside the original to protect various parts of the car's wiring. Were I to do another one, I'd replace the original fusebox with a newer unit with a realistic number of fuses.

Good advice.... Will be going through the wiring front to back during the build.... Ex electronics engineer so I hope the end result will be at least a little better than most '70s wiring.

Always like a main breaker at the battery .... impractical to fuse the starter feed but will be obsessional about avoiding chafe points :-)

I like the old fashioned look of the original fuse box but, as you say, I'll probably change it to a blade type (and maybe even splash out for the resettable ones)... I'll hunt about for a box that looks most like the old one.

Poor electrics are a bane.... Good connectors and overspec the wire gauge and half an old car's reliability problems are solved right there!! :-)

Fintray is my local track but I'm sure it will be headi g back to Forrestburn... It knows its way up that hill blindfold... I race single seaters in the main hillclimb championships so the Morgan will be special outings in calendar gaps rather than my main ride.... Looking forward to it :-)

Couldn't you put the innards of a new one into the old one?

Bob..... That would be worth a try if something could be found to fit the old cover ... Blade fuses are more compact than the tube ones so more fuse options would still fit in the same area .... If not will go for whatever is nearest I can get in looks. You can get neat little press button resettable blade fuses... Useful of you're going to use your fuse box as a diagnostic tool at the side of the road!! :-)

If you use the Talk Morgan image server you can put as many pictures as you want up and add to them at any time.

It’s definitely reaching the 'what have I done'/'that'll never go back together' interface.... A critical phase where what was at least a running car, if dodgy, is now a big pile of rusty bits spread around 3 sheds.

Fortunately i've been here before a time or two and have mechanisms in place to overcome the resulting psychological doldrums.... Rum in my case. :-)

Can now add pics to replies but still can't work out how to put them up there with the original three..... Perhaps it really doesn't matter... They'll get seen anyway if someone is interested.... And I can use the reply to give an explanatory caption.
