Hot off the producation line, the pre-production Plus Four SS was out over the weekend at Oulton Park and Shelsley Walsh.

It certainly created a lot of interest and especially the fine detailing that makes this a special model. Sorry about the number of images showing the dashboard but it really is a work of art.

Oh, and the car goes quite well too!

It will be at Donnington at the end of the month.

What a purposeful looking trad

I'd follow in Graham's footsteps and opt for a bar and harnesses, then ask to be let loose on a nice open track

errr.........the oil pressure and temp gauges are there in the normal place.

I do like the toggle switches...far nicer than the push buttons; I wonder how easy it is to change them.

Well, I've been giving this some thought..........

Likes:
Steering wheel (even though that boss is not 'in period').
Clean looking running boards.
Filler cap.
Toggle switches - MGB lost its toggles for the USA market due to safety concerns.

Not sures:
Minilites
Maybe a tiny bit too wide

Dislikes:
No spare wheel - it's the look I don't like rather than the concept.
Clear indicators with that colour.
That colour (a personal thing). I much prefer the look of the LM62 colour.
Bonnet scoop - yeah yeah, tradition I know. Those intake holes don't look big enough?
The MFI dash.
The traditional dash layout - much rather have a conventional one with two plus four small gauges.
The roundel on the bonnet.

So for me, a bespoke 4/4 with a Plus4 engine has more appeal I'm afraid.

Great pictures, it is always nice to see another model come out of the factory. New colour options and loads of exciting details, it is a great time to be a Morgan enthusiast. It is certainly the ultimate in collectors items so far. Although for me, if I had just walked into a Morgan goodies shop I would go for the other big happening, the 3 wheeler and spend the rest on helmets, goggles, trenchcoats and handwarmers.

Dave, good taste and an appreciation of what a SPORTS car really is will always out.

I really like TM as a site but when I see people citing things such as where the paint is; is it a decal or whatever; where can I put my stopwatches ( when anybody who's ever tried to sort lap or hill times will know it's much better done via something such a Race Technologies DL1 which enables one to learn lines and can then simply hook into your ecu to give Gear and RPM info) makes me wonder what people think a sports car actually is

Ok, I'm happy to have the tag of grumpy old man but all this cosmetic rubbish gives me a pain.
The bottom line must always remain: how fast, how responsive and how much fun. The SS is a marketing tool and no more
I ( or indeed anyone )could take a duratec engined +4 and at a much smaller outlay get better performance and a serious dose of power ( and I can paint yellow stripes myself)
Many people won't agree but this is a dangerous road for the factory to go down. The road to ruin for many British sports car manfacturers was littered iwth this kind of cosmetic nonsense

They are only building 60 and it is surely a good way to showcase the stuff available from Aero Racing, especially to all those people who have bought a black / tan 4/4 Sport and are looking for a way to personalise it a little.
I would want to see the power curve on the + 4 SS, if the extra bhp is all stacked at the top of the rev range then the chance of using it to its potential on the road is close to zero, even the standard 4/4 Sport is more than adequate for most usage especially with the 4.1:1 diff

Wouldn't disagree, but isn't the point that at some time ( now perhaps) MMC must look at a wider market ? OK, they've done this with the Aero and its descendants but the trads form a huge proportion of their market as it stands at the moment. Ok we hear constant mutterings that enviro regs, emissions and crash regs will kill the trads but in the meantime they are still part of the range.
If MMC are looking at a static customer profile then I'm sure the SS will sell ( it only needs60extra punters after all) but once one goes beyond that, is it really an attractive, powerful package that will bring in converts. I doubt it- and anyone looking at the current offerings from Caterham and Westfield might doubt it in the same way
So, to my way of thinking, for 'showcase' read 'rehash' for 'innovative'read cosmetic pooh. Aero Racing- show me what they have done in terms of quality upgrades going beyond buyingin pretty standard off the shelf kit and putting a mark- up on it
Sorry if this is provocative- it's not meant to be- but I really do think they have lost a huge opportunity here

I think the 4/4 Sport has brought a lot of new customers to MMC , me included, but the factory need to improve the margins on the car and the easiest way is to offer a range of accessories especially if they don't need type approval, if you think it is just cosmetic junk then you are partly correct, the days of real tuning are long gone and I suspect many people are content with some tinsel and baubles. The bespoke 4/4 is now available again but is poor value next to a Sport with a few options, interestingly all Sports including the Roadster come with studded hood. Given a blank cheque just to be awkward I fancy a bespoke Sport!

Personally I really don't see it as controversial, it's yet another "Limited Edition" In this case a +4 with some bolt on bits. Probably good value compared to sourcing all the extra bits oneself I would imagine.

I have to say that the concept of a LE on a trad makes me smile a little. Buy a LE and you will get one of 60 (or 85 or 55 or whatever number they have decided upon) near identical cars. Order and spec an "ordinary" trad yourself and you can end up with a unique car. Which one really is the Limited Edition?

How many LEs are we up too now on the trad? 5?
