Morgan Plus 4 SuperSports photos from BHM Goodwood
I had the pleasure of attending Brands Hatch Morgans Goodwood trackday today and the icing on the cake was being able to take the Plus 4 SuperSport out on the local roads, unsupervised I did offer Boshly the co-pilot seat but this was refused; I'm still trying to work out whether it was my driving style (or lack of!) or the thought of having to climb in and out of another Morgan. I'll write more once I've had the chance to spend longer behind the wheel but as Andy said, the smile on my face when I returned to the circuit was a pretty strong indication of how good this Morgan actually is. The power (30% more torque than the standard Plus 4 from 2,000rpm), and poise were simply astounding. In conversations with Tim (Aero Racing) after my drive, we both agreed that the car induces a desire to push it harder and harder because the handling instils so much confidence. (When I drove it the suspension had been adjusted for Goodwood circuit and was riding quite hard, although interestingly, I found it more than acceptable for road use because it soaked up the uneven surface with ease and wasn't skittish.) The engine doesn't make resisting this urge to exceed legal limits any easier because it is so happy to rev and pulls from 2,000 rpm all the way to redline; again, it was easy to push it past 7,500rpm because it was still pulling with such urgency. The exhaust note was a wonderful waffle without being shrill and had retained the growl when pushing on with speed. Gearing was excellent, although I believe this particular car may be getting a lower ratio because it is going to spend most of the time on track. The MMC car is the development car and as it is being raced extensively (I look forward to hearing the results of the race over the bank holiday) they have not trimmed the interior; however, what is present has been implemented nicely and I imagine the customer cars will feel quite special. While I didn't get to speak with him myself, it seems Billy Bellinger had been doing some laps in the car in preparation for the racing this weekend. Boshly and I heard from a few sources how impressed with the development of the car he was and just how good it was 'out of the box'; with this in mind and knowing that they are tweaking aspects of the car before they start delivering the 60 to customers, I look forward to my next time behind the wheel of this special Morgan. I've snapped a few photos, which I hope people will enjoy. Thanks to MMC for inviting me to drive the Plus 4 SS, to BHM for organising such a brilliant day out and to the British weather for showing us how their is no better countryside in the world when the sun is shining.

Thanks for the report Simon. I was very ( and plesantly) encouraged by what you had to say about the torque curve and the power delivery. So, I have to say ( on current evidence) hats off to Aero Racing!
G G, as I mentioned, far better drivers, with extensive time behind the wheel of racing Morgans seemed impressed with what Aero Racing had delivered on their first attempt. Furthermore, what was heartening was that the feedback which was given from the hot laps (and previous track sessions on other days), was being addressed on the production cars (simple set up issues like a tweaking the brakes to make them less biased toward the front and one other thing that was so minor I've forgotten it ). I spoke to a few people who had been behind the wheel and all shared the feeling that it was a properly sorted Morgan and the set up was surprisingly close to ideal. From my drive, I'd have to commend Tim and the team at Aero Racing because I simply found the car difficult to fault. (and despite loving the look of the car, I did go into the drive wondering just how competent the car would be given my last track-biased car experience was in a 996 GT3CS with full Manthey K400 (which felt very much a well sorted racer for the road); therefore, I'd like to think I'd shelved the rose tinted glasses before getting behind the wheel of the Plus 4 SS). I look forward to hearing the feedback from other people once they've had the chance to drive one.

I saw two going through the factory in Iris Blue this week, well done to all involved in coming up with this fantastic car, a proper Morgan once again.

Hey hey, don´t you sob - my poor little man... Just feel yourself comforted & assured of compassion of all of us! And, by the way, WHO holds you back? It does come with standard Plus4 registration paperwork (C.o.C.) - so up to you & your (high?)spirit.... And the few cars ARE accessable for us - mind my words... So (at least try to..)be brave... Jochen

Great post Simon. I was lucky enough to be on track and had 2 flying laps in the Supersport with the chief instructor at the wheel, awesome. I then jumped in my Plus 4 and went out on track with same instructor sitting next to me. I am sure our driver talent levels were the same (!) so I can only assume it was the car that was cornering 20-30MPH quicker than when I was driving mine

John, I know a few people in the race and I hope you, and the rest of the field, have an exciting and safe event.
It will be interesting to see how the Plus 4 SS stacks up against all the sorted race prepped Plus 4s.
Cheers,
Simon Remember all the other 60's race prepared cars will be running on either Avon ZZ's or Dunlop Historic tyres so to compare the lap times will be very difficult as the new S/S will be running on Yokohama 048's worth at least two/three seconds a lap at Donington
