Bringing it home... Runner and driver but various body woes :-)

Clutch kit to fit now, then think about how to get the engine in (got it out with a neighbour's Manitou before the virus unpleasantness) .... will sort it out .... not part of the same species who built the Pyramids and Stonehenge for nothing! ....have a chain hoist and some marginally strong roof trusses ....what could possibly go wrong?

Love it Keith I did the same it was the challenge that swung it, she will mix concrete too if asked ever so nicely I think we are lucky to have proper women as life partners. Funny how times change our No2 daughter is the practical one in her family and is constructing an indoor tap dancing floor for their daughter at the moment for her online lessons, mind you she was always with me in the garage building things along side me she loved it and so did I.

Good luck with the hoist you should have a few trees around I guess to triangulate, you don't want the roof coming in
It's great watching your progress on this big project, it's well beyond my capabilities nowadays.

Rich ....my (much) better half has been a country girl most of her life and is not scared of dirty hands (and probably stronger than a lot of office-working men) ..... she doesn know it yet but she's just about to help me shift an engine ...... female half of my family seem to be pretty practical, even the younger generations .... my niece, who is more than passably attractive (she came with us on our road trip to see the eclipse a few years back and in the small towns of Colorado and Wyoming she literally stopped traffic ) ..... can also be found up to her elbows in grease changing the bearings or calipers on her car ..... (ok, it's a 'desirable' older Honda Prelude apparently.... but I'll forgive her that as I fully admit to not understanding 'yoofs' and their attraction to JDM saloons )

There's hope for the future. It may look and sound different, but the spirit will still be there.

Decent day's work ..... new clutch kit installed...gearbox bolted up and all dropped into the chassis ..... won't post pics of my dodgy engine hoisting extravaganza so as not to upset the mechanically sensitive .... Happy with that ....cuppa and a sit down now!




Bulkhead just sitting there as it's the most convenient place to store it at present .... bolting it in with plenty of mastic is a job for the very near future .

Ps ...not keeping the rocker cover ....if anyone has an alloy one they keep tripping over and want to part with, let me know

K, in the off chance you may not be aware it has been normal in times past for the body to be isolated from the chassis by a layer of tar type DPC which I believe exists to allow a degree of flex betwixt them both without damaging the chassis paint and allowing corrosion access to bare metal and the process of corrosion to begin all over again...? But then you probably know that...Just did not want to take the chance of you missing that..err...trick.

Of course modern sealants might perform better. I think my floor boards may also be bedded in on sealant and their edges likewise treated prior to assembly. Kevin the chap who rebuilt what was his car (now mine) did so with years of professional experience of repairing and restoring corroded Morgans.. My car has all stainless nuts and bolts which makes taking things apart so much simpler, if and when the need arises..

Luddite .... indeed ... the remains of the bitumen felt dpc was still on some of the wood...this will be replaced as I get to mounting the tub .... will be using mastic between the bulkhead and chassis to seal the join ....and likewise on all the double-skin areas of the inner wings .... hopefully it will keep the water out and hold together long enough to see me past my driving days

Amazing progress, the engine is looking sweet, you’re right about the rocker cover though, it’s needing a Burton alloy one for sure. How’s the sumps ground clearance in the Morgan? The same engine in my 7 is subjected to frequent scuds and scrapes to the sump.

ewn .... without everything loaded the suspension is sitting high so currently a medium sized sheep could walk under it .... the way the engine sits the bottom of the sump sits a few mm above the chassis rails so things would have to get pretty desperate to scrape the sump

There must have been a gazillion alloy rocker covers sold to boy-racers back in the day ...thinking I'll look around for a 'period' one first ....but Burton will be a good fallback if I can't find one ....after the trials of the demon woodwork I'm loving this bolting stuff together bit!!.

Good to see you the other day ....hopefully we can get out for a drive about when this rebuild is finished
