tmg513, you win, in my book, you can not beat a pair of twin Webers on a four cyl engine, the only improvement on that would be a Twink, of which there may be a few in 4/4`s..?

TBM, being of Luddite tendencies I would tend to prefer the mechanical fuel pump, preferably one with a glass bowl on top and a priming lever, I can remember well such simple measures mattered when trying to make a dying battery last for just a while longer, requiring parking on a hill wherever possible wherever one travelled to save trying to push the thing... Of course a starting handle could have saved that... but my Sprite did not have one..! Happy days..(-:

I had a 'prime' lever on the old Land Rover pump - however eventually the cam lobe had worn so much, even a new pump couldn't produce enough juice, so had to switch to an electric. it also made switching from lpg to petrol much easier....

Thanks for the underbonnet pics guys ..... food for thought there .... I was surprised by the volume of pipes and gubbins when I first looked under the bonnet of mine .....one of my aims is to clean it up as much as possible ...... my thoughts are....manual choke to save the ugly piping to the auto choke on the carb .... mine has far too many breather pipes ...intend to go to one breather to the existing catch tank on the bulkhead ....routing the heater pipes so they aren't so obtrusive and bundling them with the breather to save the 'snake's nest' look ...ditching the 'feed/return' fuel supply ...single fuel line is half the chance of leaks ....hopefully I can try the above as I build it up.

My car came with an SU electric pump and my instinct was to revert to the mechanical pump for simplicity .... any thoughts on that?

Also wondering if I stripped off the excess tin bits (that hold the plug wires etc in Graham's pic ), fitted a decent looking cap and painted it up, whether it might actually look ok (in that I'm aiming for an 'old fashioned' look all round .... it's something I can try for zero cost as I go along and see what I think.

Alternator, fan+belt, starter and prop shaft so far today .... thinking braking system to while away a few hours now.

Have you considered polishing up the original rocker cover? This one is alloy but good results can be obtained with a metal one.

I was concerned about the fuel pressure to the carbs when I first put them on so the electric pump with the regulator seemed the way to go.

Today I have been mostly installing the braking system (and clutch cable by default) .... busy little corner of the engine bay down there .... definitely easier access without the inner wing fitted. .... Few bits still to do ....bulkhead final fit and seal next I think .... then the bolts that hold the M/cylinder can have their nylocs.



Snowing here today!! .... and a bit chilly in the woodshed ..... but on the upside I now have sounds installed in there so I can groove about between swearing at uncooperative bolts!

She is shaping up nicely, it's just the best time bolting it back up with nice clean things and new nuts and bolts. Bit surprised you've got snow up there though Keith, keep on grooving man

Enjoying this bit as I can see real progress ....it will slow again when I get back to the bodywork, but hopefully not by too much ..... short sharp blizzardy snow showers followed by sunny gaps ...nothing settling but the wind is strong, gusty and cold ...good day for inside jobs. .... waiting for sealant and marine ply for the floors .... stuff's getting through but delivery grinds slowly out here.

Definitely a day for working inside today Keith, you're making good progress by the sounds and looks of things.
Hopefully you'll be on the road when the summer weather does arrive in the north east. I spent the day cleaning and polishing mine.

Handbrake today ....everything stripped back to bare metal, repainted and fitted with plenty of grease .... hooked up the cable and it works surprisingly well .... Mrs Image liking the old 'fly-off' handbrake idea, she thinks they should all be like that!





Gordon ....I'm looking forward to moving from the hitting things with hammers stage to the polishing stage ..... as soon as the sealant arrives the bulkhead will be final-fitted and the body dropped in place which will mean me back to the dreaded body/woodwork ...that'll slow me down!!





My beautiful assistant .... the Mog adopted the Mog from day-one ..... just about lives in it and supervises my every move .... nearly sacked me a couple of times!!
