K, I`m guessing you have thought of a process to replace the marginal filtering and of course venting of pressure build up within the engine..? Puss is a cracker..(-:

I'm not sure if the designer had just got a new younger girlfriend and was too vain to wear the glasses he most desperately needed? ....or if Ford outsourced the work to some planet who's inhabitants were so unlike Humans as to lack the basic instinctive sense of 'rightness' we feel for symmetrical things? .... we will never know .... but I do know it ain't going back on my car, ever!

TBM ... The plain cap looks so much better ...will bookmark that .... if I can't find a bit of 75mm stock lying about somewhere soon I will go for that .

Luddite .... the previous owner had a breather fetish ... it had three of the things .... two fed into the manifold (something I don't like on principle on an older car) and one went to a bulkhead mounted Mocal catch tank (via a corrugated pipe the size of your wrist that looked like it was left over from when they built the Cumbernauld Sewage Works) ....have been researching crossflow breathing and, for the use I'm considering, the crankcase one will do ....I intend to increase the ID of that breather and connect it to the catch tank. I'm aiming for as uncluttered an underbonnet as possible consistent with everything working properly.

Engine Breather Systems

As we discussed earlier, I'm going to stick with the standard, although may get a new PCV valve.

tmg513 .... that would be the style I would go for if I settle on alloy .... have seen a few on ebay but not that many considering how popular they were with the boy-racers back in the day.

TBM ..... my system will be the 'competition' setup but with one (up-sized) crankcase breather to the catch tank (which is a comp one with sight glass and breather) ..... no PCV as it will vent to atmosphere (via the tank and filtered breather) .... no need for the flame-trap as it won't be venting to the manifold with its possible source of ignition ..... simple, neat ....and I'll let you know how it works....pic two of my OP shows the catch tank up on the bulkhead and the horrible connecting tube

What year is yours again? On mine I've got a (very useful) full width tool tray. The heater was a useless Smiths footwell one (now replaced).

TBM ....it's a '75 four seater ..... it has the square 'through-bulkhead' heater.. and a half width tool tray next to the battery. It takes the Jack, lead mallet and tool roll with space to spare. Very similar to your car in most other ways I think.

Lovely day here today ..... taking advantage of being able to wheel it about ..... all 'tinwork' bolted and sealed into the chassis and repopulating the engine bay with useful stuff like heater, brakes and steering ...waiting on new gaskets for the inlet and exhaust manifolds .... mechanical stuff coming along well ....running out of diversionary tactics to avoid grappling with the bodywork ..... soon time to leave the enjoyable nuts and bolts bit and dig into the 'character building' part.





Altogether proving to be an enjoyable build project ....managing to keep the costs tamed without cutting corners ....as there's nothing to lose I'm going to let Mrs Image loose on the old ragged seats with her trusty sewing machine (Restall tipper/recliners so basically good seats but unlovely in that special '70s way) .... she's pretty good at that sort of thing.
