Aston Martin Cygnet
During my walk to pick up a sandwich for lunch, I saw this new Aston Martin Cygnet. I wondered if it would look better in the metal than in the press shots; in my humble opinion, it did not. Perhaps it was the colour but it looked like an odious little econo-box which has been burdened with a Max Power bodykit, in the hopes of making it look like a mini Vanquish.  I know they need to reduce the average CO2 in the Aston range but was this the only way?

Yes odious seems about right nevertheless I guess all it needs to move a few will be a WAG buying one to get to the gatehouse in Chester and they'll just run off the forecourt !! IMHO

Well on the theme of small cars and my comments above, I've now had my Smart Fortwo Brabus Cabrio for two months and absolutely love it! I drive a round trip of about 50 miles a day, mix of motorway and single carriageways. The seating position is great, the car is quick enough (100bhp 700kg - I've hit 110 mph erm ... kph a couple of times and regularly surprise people away from a standing start or when an overtake is 'on') it's so easy to drive and feels like a go-kart with it's paddle shift and grippy tyres. Downsides? Not cheap, auto mode is not as smooth as a 'normal' automatic transmission (no real idea why) ride is a bit choppy and everyone, including old grannies, can't accept you going past and will try and re-overtake immediately!!! Currenty get 38-40mpg tax is cheap, roof can be raised and lowered at 80mph, interior is pleasant and with AC, Bluetooth, satnav, leather, etc it's pretty well specced. Ideal for zipping around when the weather is reasonable. When I need more seats or space or the weather is foul I'll take the X6. I think that's how things will go soon, everyone will have a 'city' car and a bigger family 'jalopy'  Oh, and I tried to get SWMBO to buy a Nissan Juke (to no avail) to go with the Smart/X6/Aero as then I'd have the full set of 'ugly/quirky' cars

Please do not take this as making a point against you Boshly as it is a general comment around city cars that I don't quite follow.
So the small car uses less consumables, less tax, less servicing, less tyres. For me the city parking thing would probably be the biggest mitigating factor.
However all the people I know who have one still have a "big car" and so the offset is bust at the very start. You still have to extract, convert and then build the car from raw materials, run it and then scrap it. Double the carbon footprint from cradle to grave. Double insurance, tax, servicing etc etc.
I believe it is far more justifiable to maintain a single car that offers all the best combination of speed, comfort, city relaxation, calm and avoid duplication and the waste that comes with it. It can be made all the better if the one car you choose does not have a bi-turbo V12 of course, whoops. Oh and you keep the Morgan.
I seem to have fallen down a rat-hole of my own making, see you at the bottom !
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Plus there is the problem of tiny engines that are not expected to achieve the same longevity of larger motors... Anyway, the electronics is liable to have expired long before the rest of the vehicle is anywhere near ready for scrapping. Unfortunately, I feel that might apply to modern Mogs too... Try finding an ECU for an M16 +4... Hopfully I shall be down to 3 cars again come next Saturday...  Cheers,

Currently running 3 V8s which all do 20mpg, and a 16 year old fiesta.
Sure the mc is fun to drive fast and an occasion in itself, but the fiesta is so much of a hoot on the roads near me.
Would live a smart roadster though, would be a brilliant b road solution...

I think the Juke's a really nice car.
Saw a production Evoque in my local Co-Op (and have a dev engineer up the road, had a tasty XKR-S on his drive...), it really is an incredibly striking car. Given its dimensions it's perfect for around town, no bigger than a Focus but looks like a £100k car. I imagine ownership would be quite satisfying...

don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to 'justify' anything except buying another car I enjoy all my cars  when I don't, I sell them. Oh and the real environmentally friendly car is the one that lasts longest - Morgans traditionally have played that role very well. I seem to have fallen down a rat-hole of my own making, see you at the bottom !

Damn a Brabus lover I had 3 of them (2 450 and 1 451) nad had so many troubles that I finally gave up for a 71 cv that I love now These small cars have a lot of troubles with complete mad gear boxes, many mechanical troubles, ..., I parked it more in the Smart tower for repair than in my house It's sad because I agree it's a very nice car, a little bomb, a real "café racer" but really fragile Oh dear  Oh well it's under warranty for the next 2.5 years. Won't change how I drive it though
