Bringing it home... Runner and driver but various body woes :-)

And there's me thinking the pile is looking a bit threadbare!

This time of year the pile has had winter wood burner and summer Rayburn supplies removed ..... there's another pile outside of unsplit 10" logs ... they get split in November and then this inside pile returns to a pristine 7 ft tall block ..... then in midwinter I fell enough trees, log them and haul them up from the woods to remake the outside pile .... been the routine for years and seems to work .... logs have had most of a year seasoning outside and a good year drying inside by the time they get burnt. Must admit to a little pleasant feeling in November when I look in the shed and see the perfect pile!

I thought it looked a little depleted compared to the last time I commented, couldn't work out why in this glorious summer were having in Scotland. You've just satisfied my curiosity, (noseiness)

Chassis looks great by the way, just like a new one! I mean like the last of the real chassis obviously, not the new fangled aluminium one.

Yep .... Rayburn takes about 45 mins to switch between fuels ..... in the winter when we want it ticking over 24/7 it runs on oil .. .... in the summer when we just need to cook dinner and top up the hot water it runs on wood and gets lit for an hour each evening.... could go fully wood but not so convenient when it's blizzarding outside on a February night!

Got the rear wiring all in place but today is a major project in the garden for Mrs Image .... 'Happy wife, Happy life' principle

Sorry I haven't posted for a while but I've been taking a 5 week Diplomatic Pause from the Morgan Resto to turn a long-abandoned poly-tunnel frame which, over the decades, had become filled with piles of earth from other projects, waist high weeds and my extensive collection of dead racing slicks into this for Mrs Image.







Called a Polycrub and invented in Shetland it's basically a polytunnel but covered in 10mm polycarbonate twinwall sheet like a conservatory .... tough as nuts and won't blow away in the first 80 mph breeze like a polythene covered one.

8m x 4.5m so should keep the green-fingered one occupied for a while .... and by doing it using the old frame from scratch rather than buying a kit has saved several thousand ... or so I am reliably informed by the expert (tho she may have just said that to keep me going as I hand-dug and barrowed literally tons of soil out and equal tons of hardcore in )

Arse of a job but my Brownie-Point pile is now of mountainous proportions and sufficient for me to disappear back into the workshop for a few months and still get fed!

Excellent work Keith, not just a dab hand with a spanner then!
If that structure survives in Shetland it'll survive almost anywhere. Enjoy the fruits and veg of your labour 👍

As a litlle job to ease me back into the resto I've started on the replacement dash panel .... looks a bit bare, but is yet to be populated with all the switches, lamps and other gubbins .... if you've read previous posts you'll know my love of the 'garage-built' look of the pre-war racers and specials .... that lovely quirky imperfection .... once this oxidises down a bit and isn't so bright it will suit me fine.




Long and tedious job engine-turning a big piece like that .... went down to my mates fabricators to get a drill press with a big enough throat to take the whole dash ..... tucked away at the back behind all the whizzy flashing lights and readouts of the modern workshop he still has the old forge area (his place is still known as the 'smiddy' locally) .... I wanted the authentic '30s look so I did the job on this




Quite a lovely way to spend a couple of hours

That's looking lovely oh he has some nice big old toys in there, is that a sheet metal bender in the back there.

That is a very impressive Shetland tunnel and squillions of brownie points to boot.

Super job that dashboard, well done as it's pretty tedious doing your own engine turning

Rich .... yep, big sheet roller ..... adjustable to give tapered curves .... was thinking if I could roll some 'supersport' style curved backs with it to graft onto the seat bases I have to give me some neater folding/tilting seats.

Cooperman ..... two repetetive hours! Got a bit zen towards the end ..... the rows are neater than they appear in the pic (but not too neat or it will look like machine made or stick on film!! ) ... some odd reflections going on ... aiming to have a 'sub-panel' between the clocks to mount the switches and lamps to break up the swirly acreage.

Cracking job on the Polycurb ans dash K, impressive indeed.

The Smiddy looks great, those old tools cause me to think of all the folk who used them over the years and tasks performed...My great uncle was the blacksmith in Kirriemuir. An engine turned dash was the one modification I contemplated for my +8, to make it look a tad more vintage. In our climate I suspect you will not have to wait long for it to acquire the patina you are desirous of...(-:
