Luddite .... smashing drill press ..... I think Captain Nemo took some time off from building the 'Nautilus' with it to knock a few bits up for H G Wells Time Machine as a homer.
I really need to get stuck back in on the Morgan after the layoff and a nice discrete job like the dash is a good starter to get my hand back in.

That dash looks spotty dog. I wish I had a mate with a old turner!

Dave .... it's a pretty simple process .... I only went for the big old drill press because it was fun and my bench drill just wasn't deep enough to take the full width of the dash .... the secret is Cratex abrasive rod ..... rubber rod (3/4" diameter in my case, but comes bigger and smaller) impregnated throughout with abrasive ..... gives a good consistent mark every time no matter how big the piece ..... if you mark over an edge or a screw hole it can effect the abrasive surface .... I had a scrap of ali so whenever a mark was on a dodgy bit I could do a handful of marks on the scrap which 'trued' the end up again .... other than that it's just repetetive.
Bought 6" of the rod and turned up a little 'tool holder' on the lathe out of some scrap to take the Cratex rod in one end but reduce the shaft down to where it would fit a normal chuck as 3/4" is a bit big for most chucks (big drills like that use morse taper mostly) .... about 2" of rod cut off and put in the holder ..... dash didn't make a dent in it ..... reckon you could engine-turn an entire 747 with the 6" and still have some left over for a passing lear jet ..... as jobs go it turned out a fun thing to do.

Made these yesterday .... reckon they look suitable .... just tagged in to see that everything fits so some fine-tuning needed (along with a larger lamp for the hazards to fill the empty hole) .... once I've finalised on the switch locations I'll stamp the switch ID in the shiny box underneath it. ..... whole thing is still a bit blingy but it will all calm down nicely with a bit of weathering. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/08/28/20200828_152618.jpg) K

Been doing a bunch of things that don't really photograph but here's a couple so you know I haven't given up and bought a pair of roller skates. Dash finished .... now removed and stored away in the spare room until it gets final fitted and connected up. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/09/13/20200905_185517.jpg) Today I have been mostly making repair panels .... this one dummy fitted to make sure everything fits .... held in place with some nifty little welding clamps that hold everything flush and spaced for butt welding .... good clean up of the various bits of metal and I'll have a go at that .... hopefully it won't end up looking like a crinkle cut crisp before I'm finished ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/09/13/20200913_161845.jpg) K
