Not posted for a while ..... engine bay completed ..... dash in and bulk of the wiring done .... found a Davies-Craig electric rad fan that was once on my racer (but removed for weight saving reasons .... must have saved all of a Kg ) ..... will no doubt prove useful on hot days in traffic.. Body panels done and being prepped for paint .... that may hold me up a bit as the weather has turned and I don't have a heated booth (or any booth for that matter ) .... will have to pick a dry mild day and warm wherever I spray as well as I can .... could be a bit of a wait. Plenty to be getting on with tho ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/11/20201111_150835.jpg) K

The eagle-eyed will have spotted that I've finally made good on my threat to replace the hideous plastic oil filler cap (page 14) .... decided to not just turn one up out of a bit of stock ..... my life would be so much simpler if I could just settle for the easy route! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/11/20201104_103506.jpg) Generated a CAD file on Mrs Image's chromebook .... then (left to right) .... made a 3D print of the file .....used that to make a mould .... melted the metal and cast a rough blank (that one's an early failure) .... made a good blank then put it in the lathe and turned the finished article . Well chuffed .... first thing I've taken from a CAD file to a finished metal part on the car Made to measure and not another one like it in the world! Really enjoyed the casting process and can see me doing more stuff. K

Well done you that's a lot of skills encompassed there, I hope Mrs. Image has been suitably rewarded for the loan of her brain box

I have a permanent position as Mrs Image's IT consultant (most of the help requests seem to be in the form of "why the @#$&*!!! isn't this working!! " .... not sure if it's a body temperature thing, but touch screens only respond unreliably to her finger ... she says it's because they're designed by men ... and I say it means she's almost certainly a zombie or vampire!).
I was inspired by Bonesie's postings on here to get a 3D printer ... have found a nice simple CAD program that's really intuitive to use (and web based .... and free!!) .... probably not the program of choice if you're designing the Space-Shuttle but well up to my needs.
As for casting .... by definition it was first done by some stone-age bloke so shouldn't be too demanding for a space-age bloke.
Despite all that am well pleased with the result .... and it was fun.

Been doing a lot of un-photogenic stuff (and felling trees plus other winter chores that come with living in the country) ..... still fiddling with the body panels and waiting a suitable weather window to get the spray gun out . As a result I've not posted for ages ..... just to reassure that I've not given up here are a couple of 'side-jobs' Modding the seats to look more like the supersports seats I love but keep the recline/tilt functions. Have kept the Restall bases and mechanism but cut off the upper loop and replaced it with a steel strip subframe braced to the rear cross-bar and welded to the moving part of the mechanism ... went back to my mate's Smiddy where I did the engine turning and used his big old manual roller to curve some 2mm ally sheet which was cut to shape and then fixed to the subframe with 6mm countersunk stainless bolts. Mrs Image then set to with her trusty sewing machine to make the covers .... she assures me it's a @#*%### of a job ...... she's never doing another one ...... and even the suggestion will result in me sleeping in the garage for the forseeable future. (However, she has a short memory .... hence my continued presence .... so I'm hopeful of future co-operation if I decide on a Mk 11 version ) Only cost about £30 per seat to convert so they'll do fine by me .... however' I did invest another £20 ish per seat fitting heated pads while we were at it . ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/03/09/20210309_150908.jpg) K

Another one was the rear number plate mounting ..... the mounting plate fixes to the angle iron spare wheel supports on the 4 seater ..... it carries two repro vintage Lucas MT 211 motorcycle rear lights (rear/stop/numberplate light in each ) ... they'll be slaved to the existing rear lights and add a bit more visibility to the rear end .... seeing as even a modern mini has a back end the size of a barn-door and lit up like a fairground that won't go amiss. Also wanted a GB plate as one will be needed for foreign touring .... created a CAD file then printed out on the 3d printer .... bit of painting and all good .... seems remarkably robust but if it gets damaged I can always print another one. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/03/09/20210205_134737.jpg) Hopefully I can post some more mainstream work as the weather improves.
