Bringing it home... Runner and driver but various body woes :-)

Have been doing a bit on the car here and there regularly but the short days, unheated workshop and inevitable intrusion of real-world chores have slowed things down compared to the speedy progress of the early months ..... spring coming is resolving a fair bit of that, so hoping things will pick up speed again!! 🙂

K, The only time my garage saw any form of heat was when set up for a paint job, other than that I wore quite a few layers layers of clothing with long Johns as the base layer. When someone from the oil industry presented me with a pair of water resistant thermal overalls there was no stopping me from that point on... Useless information as we are heading into the warmer months but something to keep in mind for the next project...perhaps

That's both doors reskinned .... not as awful a job as I feared .... both doors were un-repairably crispy along the bottom so re-skinning was the only option .... currently looking for somewhere to electroless nickel (or at a push bright zinc) plate my hinges.....other stuff been going on in the background but nothing photogenic (drilling the hinges and fitting oversize stainless pins off the lathe, finishing the repairs to the rear bodywork etc etc)

Ps the old door ....well rotten!! .... wood frame was absolutely fine though 🙂

Cracking job on the doors K, perhaps you could advertise the old skins on eBay as patinated and original..(-: You never know stranger things have been sold on eBay. Luvin the engine turned dash too.

Nice work on the doors Keith, and plenty chairs at the back of the garage to give your workmanship a dammed good looking at.😆

Stripped the paint off the cowling .... find this knurling right round the edge of the radiator grille opening ..... I'm guessing it was left by whatever they used to make the wire rolled edge?? ..... not noticed it on any of the other wired edges (such as the spare wheel opening) ..... is this normal? ..... guess I'll have to fill it as I go along as it's going to show through the paint..... or are they 'all like that, Sir!' ... in which case it can stay as 'character'

Sorry for my tardiness in keeping up with posting .... but it's the racing season so my mind is elsewhere .... in spite of not posting, I have been keeping on with the resto ... sprayed the tub and started fitting all those random bits that I have previously cleaned, sprayed or even made from scratch then put away as the car wasn't ready for them yet..... currently on with trimming the doors so they will be fitted soon hopefully .... will post more shortly as more stuff bolts on to the big lump that is now looking far more car-like 🙂




It's sprayed in 2 pack Rover Solar Red ... it's a very RED red and a real contrast to the black wings
