MOG414_passengerFOOTREST&storage

When I got my Morgan, I noticed that it did not have anywhere to store say a camera, tools etc, under lock and key, if one needed to park the car and be away for some time. 'Googling' I found that a compartment was available to fit in the passenger side foot well that would also double as a footrest. But I thought it was too expensive so I looked around in my workshop and found an old tower type computer outer metal case. Took it apart and managed to fabricate the sides of the 'new' compartment complete with ventilation slots on one side. Front top, backside, bottom and front bottom were folded from a sheet of electroplated steel, that probably came from a scrapped upright refrigerator side. For the door/footrest I used 2.5mm aluminium plate, left over from my aircraft project. It was attached with a piano hinge. Countersunk pop rivets were used except at the back. No new holes were drilled in the firewall bulkhead since I picked up the same bolt holes that hold the bracket for the screen washer water bottle. After trial fitting, I sprayed the case in 2K silver paint, fitted a piece of non-slip carpeting inside and glued a rubber mat to the external surface of the footrest/door. A lock was also incorporated. It is quite unnoticeable for passers by.
Total cost: under €20 plus did my bit at recycling;))

Another nice piece of work there Reno. I had a mock up made and trial fitted but Mrs D didn't like it at her feet so i opted for the locking storage box on the luggage rack.

Excellent piece of work and at less than 10% of the cost of buying one.

If your better half is pretty tall, maybe she was right. Mrs P is approx 5’ 6” and she is ok with it. Actually she is better off since she can rest her feet on the slanting door. That is better and probably safer than having them flat on the floorboard.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
