MOG414_passengerFOOTREST&storage

When I got my Morgan, I noticed that it did not have anywhere to store say a camera, tools etc, under lock and key, if one needed to park the car and be away for some time. 'Googling' I found that a compartment was available to fit in the passenger side foot well that would also double as a footrest. But I thought it was too expensive so I looked around in my workshop and found an old tower type computer outer metal case. Took it apart and managed to fabricate the sides of the 'new' compartment complete with ventilation slots on one side. Front top, backside, bottom and front bottom were folded from a sheet of electroplated steel, that probably came from a scrapped upright refrigerator side. For the door/footrest I used 2.5mm aluminium plate, left over from my aircraft project. It was attached with a piano hinge. Countersunk pop rivets were used except at the back. No new holes were drilled in the firewall bulkhead since I picked up the same bolt holes that hold the bracket for the screen washer water bottle. After trial fitting, I sprayed the case in 2K silver paint, fitted a piece of non-slip carpeting inside and glued a rubber mat to the external surface of the footrest/door. A lock was also incorporated. It is quite unnoticeable for passers by.
Total cost: under €20 plus did my bit at recycling;))

Only on TalkMorgan would I expect that quote! laugh2

I did spend 25 years of my spare time designing and building my own light aircraft, so l do have off-cuts which are being put to good use;))

My metalwork / craft skills don't even register on the scale compared to yours. That aeroplane is brilliant. It looks right - therefore it must be right!

Hope the test programme and certification go to plan.

The lovres absolutey "makes it" for me - SO very... Morgan-ish!

Now i feel a bit ashamed to only have a rather mundane (in comparison) Librands footlocker fitted... hide

Top Job!!! thumbs

oddly, my wife is 5'6" and prefered not to have the locking box as she could not stretch her legs out when it is installed. I suppose it depends on the lenght of the legs.

If your better half is pretty tall, maybe she was right. Mrs P is approx 5’ 6” and she is ok with it. Actually she is better off since she can rest her feet on the slanting door. That is better and probably safer than having them flat on the floorboard.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Mine is a 2-seater and my wife does shift her seat all the way back. Since yours is a 4 seater, leg room is limited, I think…
or I used more persuasive arguments;))
