Plus 4 SS legal front number plate bracket
Here is a picture of my Plus 4 SS legal front plate mounting bracket.
It's a piece of 2mm thick aluminium 275mm x 220mm folded to 112 degrees at 85mm on the short side. There are two 8mm holes that line up with the two holes that are already in the grille closing panel.
If you look up from underneath the grille you will see them filled with rubber grommets.
This allows the number plate to sit flush with the undertray, but not touching it, so no paint damage.
The number plate is stuck to the bracket and sits nice and straight.
I have black powder coated the bracket so that it will not corrode. I also made one up in stainless steel but it is very heavy compared to the aluminium.

Ivan you might end up with an order book full for this it's excellent.
Don't know the first thing about powder coating is it a two part thing or what.
That stainless will have been hard work !

The material is easily cut and folded with the correct equipment.
The hardest problem now is getting hold of suitable off cuts for jobs like this, with so many small manufacturing businesses going under. Buying full sheets is very expensive.
The stainless bracket was way too heavy, although it would never rust. I think the alloy part is more than up to the task of holding a plastic number plate.
Powder coating is an industrial metal coating process. The part is sprayed with a plastic powder substance, which I think is retained on the part with ststic. Then it is baked in an oven, this melts and cures the coating. It is much harder and durable than paint and if done well almost as good a finish.
This type of number plate mount could probably be used on any 4/4 or +4 to fix the plate under the grille. I don't like the number plate at an angle and curved on the standard factory mount.

Thanks for the run through on powder coating, sounds good stuff. Not a fan of the curved plates either so I'll make me one as per your measurements if that's ok by you.
We are lucky here as we have a small working harbour - mostly crabbers but loads of Gin Palaces (stationary of course)moored up in the Dart. Thus the need for metal fabrication etc, a friend of mine runs one and anything from a Kort nozzle to a Stainless handrail is available. being from the electronic engineering background we barter trade so the ally or stainless will be ok. I was imagining you trying to fold 2mm stainless in a hand folder in your garage !

Iwan
thanks for your R&D. Please send a pic when fitted. This could be a very nice solution not only ref the +4SS but also for all sports and bespoked cars with overriders

Was there ever a follow up pic on this one? Looks like a real neat and professional job.

The follow up is, I had the bracket black powder coated after trial fitting, but I havn't put it back on the car yet. I have been too busy tinkering with the M3W.
