Boat build

Another experiment in photo posting, this photo was taken yesterday, if this works I will add earlier pictures of the build and bore you all.

Fantastic, it worked, now I can add earlier pictures if there's any appetite for them out in TM land. I might even do it there's not.😂

Cheers guys. On top of Covid we now have this awful war in Ukraine affecting the supply chain and pushing prices even higher. We have a 8-10 week lead time on heritage double glazing and the cost has roughly doubled due to wholesale gas prices. I had a visit from my timber company rep last week, their suppliers of laminated redwood have closed the factory in Poland due to the Ukrainian staff returning home to fight and it very close to the shelling at the border, their main competitor has since doubled their prices. Veneers are not to be had anywhere and the timber suppliers won't kiln dry or transport hardwood atm because of fuel costs, more price rises are inevitable he tells me!

I know very little about marine electrical so chose Sterling over Vetus and Victron because of its no frills construction. I see little point in paying for features I'll probably never use or need. It's good to hear that they perform well and are reliable Richard.

Great progress Gordon, it's nice to see neat services installations (even though they end up covered) and the use of cable tray is a good idea thumbs

The cushions have been collected and with them the remainder of the vinyl so I've made a start on covering the bulkheads etc.

Looking into the head, it's so small it's impossible to get a picture from inside!

The seating area made into the small double. Still need the filler piece to complete.

The helm

And the completed flooring in the main cabin. Still have to fit a dark grey vinyl on the bed base and the risers but almost complete.
Only other things to do are the painting and the bow thurster to fit under the bed. No sniggering at the back laugh2

Thanks JB, I can finally see an end in sight now George, still a lot of hours required yet though, and a fair bit of cash! That might hold things up a tad.
More important things on today, it's Morgan MOT time. Just back from a trip to the filling station (£2.07 per litre for supreme + scared) but the good news is she passed so we're all set for our Orkney trip. I guess, hope, that's the type of thing I'll be spending my time doing once the boat is complete. And stay aboard and sail it of course!

I think I've finally got to the bottom of why I have poor sound quality on my GoPro recordings. Having bought the proper gadget for the Hero 7 the sound quality was still poor, turns out you need a trrs to trs adapter in the line which I received yesterday. Off to try it out later today.

That boat is looking brilliant.

Will there be a launch party?

We should all raise a glass (or two) on the day.

Gordon, I can well imagine that sourcing materials may be difficult given the Covid effect on so many industries, and likewise for available funds.. !

There seem to be a few folk around who just like working on their boats and may not ever seem to sail them much... Though building from scratch adds another level of commitment and skill. I have a pal who is ever working on his cars but rarely seems to put much in the way of miles on them... Each to their own.

I ever feel vulnerable come MOT time, good news on the pass, especially with a planned trip to look forward to, I hope the weather is kind on the trip.

Also good to read that you have identified the correct jack for your GoPro Gordon. T`was Mossy of this parish who suggested buying the dead cat that made a real improvement on sound quality from my mike by removing windrush far more efficiently than the little sponge thingy on the end of my remote mike, when trying to make driving vids..

Thanks Jon and Paul, I don't think there will be a launch party, at least not on the scale of when a new trawler is launched in this neck of the woods, that's an event to equal a wedding! IF it goes well I'll post plenty pictures and hopefully some video footage to view. If you don't see anything you'll know she sank🤣 I'll keep you all posted on progress.

George, getting parts has certainly become an issue since Brexit, made worse when Covid hit. Most of the parts I buy are from Vetus who are based in the Netherlands , just received the joystick and cable for the bow thruster after a 6 months wait. It's also getting to an expensive period in the build with several major purchases like the stainless handrail on deck, the marine electronics and the bow thruster.

Looking forward to Orkney and will post some pics of the trip hopefully. The sound issue with the GoPro has not been resolved unfortunately. The problem seems to be post hero 5 models (mine is a 7 black) don't have plug in external microphone capabilities so I bought the official GoPro adapter. It didn't work! Then I seen various you tube videos where they said a trrs to trs adapter was required to access the audio input in the menu, you then click on the external microphone setting and off you go. Bought the adaptor and tried it today, still the audio input options won't appear, just says N/A😡 I've watched umpteen experts on you tube and tried all the fixes they suggested, nothing. I'm going to contact a friend who has a similar adapter to eliminate the fact mine could be dodgy and also try his microphone and cable to rule them out. Hoping to get a solution before next weekend.
