Matching car mats

I have had some car mats made to match my carpet in the car and thought others may be interest. I managed to buy 1M of matching box weave from https://www.car-hood.co.uk/boxweave . I then made some patterns from paper and used that as a template to cut the carpet.

Once cut I took the cut carper to https://www.colrugco.co.uk/ who added the whipping to the edges for a reasonable £15.

Good work Gary. I had some similar extra mats made for Morton. In this case I bought cheap ready made black ones for Plus 8 which turned out to be too large. I then found a guy in South Norfolk who cut them to match OE, repiped in red and added a wear patch for drivers heal.

Thanks Richard. I’m trying putting paint protection film next. Has anyone tried it.

Nicely done Gary. There is a thread on here about applying ppf. As I said I don't think it is that easy.

Yes, after having installed Xpel PPF Ultimate plus on my front and rear wings (also to protect the paint by getting in and out) I have had it just Installed at my front, including the headlight and spotlights "glasses", as everything is still pristine at the moment and we have a lot of touring to and through Italy the coming months, and the quality of the Italian roads is getting worse and worse. In our Ivory 4/4 with some patina it did not bother me that much, but the new dark PlusFour is somewhat different......!😅🇭🇺🙏🏻

I typed a long post responding to this and then my device died!

As Ruut Bianchi mentions, Xpel is an excellent product; I too have experience with that make of PPF and would recommend it. Not only is the self repairing quality impressive (light scratches will heal themselves when the film warms (from the sun - or simply warm ambient temps - you don't need to hold a hairdryer to the vehicle! grin2 ) but unlike some of the older products, it doesn't yellow over time. It also seems to be the go-to for many of the mainstream manufacturers (including JLR iirc) and if the customer factory orders it, this is what they fit. As an aside, when cars have a satin (matt finish), this is often achieved by installing a satin ppf rather than a clear one. The result is quite interesting because whilst the metallic of a paint still shows through, the result is closer to a matt finish than a gloss.

Approved Xpel dealer have access to cad files that allow them to cut the segments specifically for the intended vehicle. I cannot confirm whether Morgan have any cars on the database but a call your local installer will confirm that: https://xpel.co.uk/installer-locator/

There is an art to it and a good installer is worth using.

Lastly, in the UK, you should declare that you have PPF fitted to a car. The reason being that if the car needs to be repaired, there will be an additional cost to have the film reapplied. I have never had an issue with the insurance company increasing the annual premium but I have heard stories from others where they have!

Simon, good tip on declaring you have PPF on the modifications list, it had never occurred to me that it's an additional expense to replace after the paint job that a cost conscious insurer my try and query
