Purple and blue

My 4/4 has been conspicuously absent from tm lately, nothing wrong, just been busy with other things. Had a wee trip last weekend and enjoyed every minute!

Amongst other things keeping me busy, I bought a woods c/w quad bike, this version of Morgan can’t quite cut it beyond the gate😂

The woods are the top of a hill, I’m now the proud owner of a triangulation pillar. As a youngster, I loved ordnance survey maps and these pillars were always a source of interest.

Nice pics Ewan .... place looks great this time of year ... we must pop over and you can give us the guided tour.🙂

Likewise with trig points ... was always spotting them when I was a kid ... what an undertaking the mapping of the UK was back before computers and satellites! .... there's a whole community of trig-chasers that tramp round them ticking them off, like munro-baggers.

Yep, Keith a guided tour is on cards, some advice from someone who actually knows what they’re doing won’t go amiss. I do have several ash trees in the mix so although struggles to drive around there, my car should feel at home.

Very nice images as ever, thanks for posting, I do enjoy looking at pics..

A bit of a ramble....

On the general concept of owning land, whereas perhaps ownership may be a bit like Morgan ownership in that we may only really be the temporary custodians of such things..? (-:

In Scotland since the right to roam legislation came into being, I suspect the feeling of land ownership may be diluted somewhat....?

My circa 45 minute morning constitutional, takes me through a set of gate pillars and on to a lengthy meandering driveway, no doubt set out to provide a few glimpses of the big hoose as one progressed along it further into that which no doubt was a once grand estate. The house, with a separate stables, coachhouse and dovecot and living quarters for the coachman and others, hidden behind trees from sight of the main house, all owned at one time by a well known family of lairds in this part of the country.....The stables are unfortunately crumbling, the house is boarded up, but fortunately some time back the estate was bought and part used as working farm and educational facility, and is well managed and maintained as a private entity....

As I tend to walk up the long drive to the big hoose circa 06:00- 07:00, I have the place to myself to the extent that I can enjoy it`s vistas and architecture, almost as much as could any owner, and without all the maintenance responsibilities of house and land that the original owner would have had to consider...and no doubt the current owners likewise with the complication of H&S legislation and preservation orders on the hoose etc...?

I too own house and land, all be it only on 1/3rd acre, and the house these days logically too large for a solo inhabitant, and which the maintenance thereof is not quite as easy as it once was..Hmm..?

Not sure I would be happy with folk wandering through my garden and leaving the amount of litter I often pick up on my morning walk up through the estate....and I definitely would find it difficult to keep warm in the big hoose, ...Hmm..? Hopefully a pic copied below..

Lovely shots Ewan, what a lovely tract of land you have there.

Is it a thing at the moment I wonder as they keep selling chunks of Dartmoor off ?

We have our fair share of grand houses here too, Donald Trump bought one nearby and built his golf course and as you point out, the public are entitled to wander at will. It doesn’t seem to cause an issue in our area, in fact quite the opposite, outdoor rambling only seems to be a pursuit of pleasant people, I wouldn’t want to own land anywhere near a city though.
The woods I’ve bought have been owned by the same family since 1750 or thereabouts, the laird still lives in the house and farms the estate, he’d definitely be what you’d call “old money” but also a “jolly good fellow”.😂

Since the theme of this post is colour, here are some pictures from Sunday’s walk on Mormond hill with verdant green foliage, purple heather and blue sky.
