Ski Sunday

Couple of weeks ago I went Skiing in France, seven days of spectacular conditions, been doing an Alpine trip on and off for about eight years. You can cover vast distances in a day in relatively thin air, it’s 3k metres altitude and yet, you come home with more energy than when you left.

I learned to ski here in Scotland, did a lot as a teenager and continued with my wife until we had kids, I had my own equipment when I was young but I’ve always hired on these more recent Alpine trips. This time I decided I’d buy a my own stuff again, partly to make sure I don’t make excuses to avoid continuing with the skiing, now I’ve spent the money I’ll have to do it till I drop just to get my money’s worth 😂

I’ve a friend who’s a consultant for Elan skis, they’ve an award winning innovation ideal for Morgan owners, folding skis.

Style and clothes since you’ve asked and I might cause offence here, I don’t have a style but I don’t wear anything you’d find in Sportsdirect or similar and nothing made of fleece, it’s all ugly and makes you stink😁 Camping, climbing and hiking stuff, most ski stuff too, also all ugly. Saggy, misshapen T-shirts, polos and jeans, ugly. Logos and branding, ugly

Worst of all, you know I like to take pictures, ugly clothes ruin a good shot, it’s hard to avoid in the UK.

Don’t worry if your wardrobe is all of the above, you’re backed by popular opinion, I’m well aware and have been told many a time, I’m the weirdo 😂

At work I wear Tackety boots, a kilt, normally bare chested but in the winter I put on my string vest.

No recent pictures but here’s me 30 years ago dancing with my wife at our wedding , that suit still fits😁

I wouldn’t rock the poncey scarf but this guy is my less handsome stunt double, he talks the same rubbish too, sorry about the swearing!

Elan skis are Slovenian, not that I am promoting the country (much)! Not sure if their folding skis have caught on but I used to enjoy skiing with small Big Foot Skis.
Anyone else tried them. Ideal for pottering down small mountain slopes and throw in the car boot.
MM
PS. Been some great skiers from Slovenia along with cycling and wall climbing greats from a small pop.of 2 million. Ski flying is also a fabulous sport. Looking forward to the Winter Olympics.

I quite like the ethos of the Elan left and rights, it makes a bit of sense, but like the folders it’s a solution looking for a problem, the folders would do well as a branded sports car accessory, I saw plenty flashy cars in Crans Montana. To properly get them to catch on , you’d need to also rethink the boots, if you could have walking boots which can also ski, it could work well even if it compromises performance.
My friend tells me Elan also build skis for many other more expensive brands, I did have a look at them, very well made and good value but they looked plain.
I bought the atomic boots with the boa ratchet, they’re great, very comfortable but then I’ve never had an issue with even the old rubbish hire boots, I reckon I could ski on planks with welly boots nailed on, good gear certainly makes speed safer and easier but it’s not essential for most ordinary skiing.

Bloody gorgeous couple you make thank you - and thank you Ewan for answering my query fully I really do appreciate it as I have noticed over your years of quality photographs that both you and either of your youngsters are always nicely turned out as they say down here. Which translated means no ripped Jeans, Tatts or nose/eyebrow pig rings, that's sure to upset George hey laugh2.

Hilarious the imagery of Rab C indelible now - thank you - not...

I'm still in shorts and short shirt sleeves as it's a balmy 8C down here even though we had a wee bit Mistral of late tis not cold.
I will never own a fleece as they are like an unpleasant Sauna if you have the vestige of a circulatory system functioning.

Horses for courses as they say..

Heather on tother hand suffers with raynards and earlier today had lunch out on Overseas Estate in the village, JK has a pile there so not too rough she left the baseball bat home.

Anyway after 3 hours yapping and whatever they do for 3 hours she comes back froze to the marrow.

So I stuff the heating up to 22C park her bum on the poof with a cushion behind her between the large radiator - mug of hot tea sees her thawed out in 10mins. She is 5'7" and 8.5 Stones. I'm 6' and 48" chest at 105 Kg so it's not rocket science is it.

I see Ryanair air is advising passengers not to wear jeans, I was hoping that meant we’d return to the days when air travel was glamorous and exciting, but no, it’s just to avoid DVT in their cramped seats!😂 no doubt I’ll have to sit next to even more sweaty folk in ugly fleece sportswear..

I presume they still require you to wear some other outer garment instead, the thought of bare legs with just underwear would fill me with trepidation. Sometimes you have to point out the obvious to some of their passengers.

Went skiing again this morning, good fun but very wet, it’s seems like it’s been raining non stop for forty day and forty nights.
Here’s the River Don only 10 miles from source and already raging ferociously.

Yesterday I messed about in my woods, my pond dries out in the summer but there’s plenty of water just now, I’m on my own private island here, creepy weirdos are not welcome 😁
