… drilling a 52 mm hole into the dashboard for a VDO clock. ..

I see it's a render. Doesn't seem practical to me, don't like the lay-out and seems not handy. Better drill the hole on the right site, nicer lay-out and better to see for the driver, which is the most important user of the clock.

Did you consider using a combined temp./oil pressure gauge, then fitting the clock in the vacant position to maintain symmetry of the central panel. With the benefit of no modification to the existing dashboard required.

I kept all the original parts, so … if my son, as the next owner of her, wants to set it back to factory delivery status.. he can simply do so .. it will be then his decision to drill that 52mm hole .. enjoy ..
