The wait is over......

We were finally able to make the trip to Melbourne a just over a week ago to take delivery of our blue beauty. The drive home went well with some admiring and inquisitive looks en route with a few people taking photos too. We encountered rain most of the way (showers and downpours) - so alas the trip was done with the hood up - gave the wet weather equipment a good test and all works well.

We were driving the 4/4 on a permit without number plates (all legal and above board) - we passed several highway patrols and all left us alone....however......just after arriving at our over night stop we parked underneath the hotel and were interrogated by a young police officer cop , who was staying at the hotel, about not having number plates nono . We played 20 questions and offered up the paperwork but he didn't want to see it....and then went on his way..... thumbs

Thankfully I managed to give the car a good clean over the weekend so all is well once again....looking forward to getting it out on the road....with number plates of course... drive woohoo

Mr_M..... I just noticed the background to your photo (looking too closely at your car) and recognised familiar territory.
I collected my car on the Fathers Day weekend in September last year. I flew to Melbourne with my youngest son, collected the car Saturday morning and began the 1,000k drive back to Sydney.

This was always going to be a long trip so we planned to stop just over half way – you guessed it Gundagai.
We stayed in the “Tucker Box Motel” which I can thoroughly recommend. I told the motel in advance what I was doing and they were most intrigued to see the car and very happy to put it in their personal garage under lock and key for the night. Looks like Morgan’s will become familiar sights around this great little town.

My boy enjoyed the trip home – a real “blokes”adventure. It turned out to be a great Fathers Day for me and hopefully a memorable one for him.

Thanks for the positive comments about our 4/4 - ordered the number plates this week so will be good to go very soon.

Thanks also Gambalunga for posting the poem, I wondered if anybody would pick up the significance of the location, and OZ 4/4 - the adventure of collecting your car is a great story too. I will admit at first the plan was to transport our 4/4 in an enclosed truck however my wife convinced me driving it home would add to the adventure of purchasing our first Morgan...she was right. We have fond memories of bringing another car back from Tasmania which logistically was a little more challenging. Drove that car with no number plates too....and was stopped by the police....
