I had this problem on my 2003 Plus 8 and had fitted several brake light switches to cure the problem, they only worked well for about a month and then they would only work on hard braking. To solve the problem finally I fitted a relay in the brake light circuit so the switch worked the relay which in turn worked the stop lamps, this solved the problem once and for all.
The reason that the fault ocures in the first place is that the load on the switch with three 21 watt bulbs is two great and the contacts in the switch get burnt because of arcing,
The other way to solve the problem would be fit a new switch three led bulbs, thus reducing the load on the brake switch and reduce arcing of the contacts of the switch.
